Remix: Fragments of Memories -For KgZ-

After much begging, KgZ finally hooked me up with the needed materials to make a remix of his classic song Memories -Summer Days- and here is the end result.

I hope you all like it and enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it. It's personally one of my best produced tracks.

You can hear it on my website, or on my rithum.

As always, comments and critiques are welcome.

    Not for download.

    Alright.
I always felt like there was a lag between the guitar and piano in Memories -Summer Days-.
In my opinion, in this song, it's really noticeable. The drums felt tacked on and didn't fit with the song. The cutting of loops and stuff was pretty cool, but at the beginning, the 8-bit stuff felt added on just for the sake of having something 8-bit, and were a little too loud. The song fell nicely into something else near the end.
    I thought it was okay.
EDIT: Actually the more I listen to the more I like it.
So maybe it'll be a masterpiece by the end of the day.

What? There's no 8bit anywhere in this song, in fact, it's not even white noise. It's a processed hihat, just fyi. The main reason I have it is to give the snare a nice and soft decay sound later on.

As for the lag between guitar and piano, thats what happens when you record and mix live instruments. It is just a smidge off and it could easily be time corrected in Melodyne but honestly it makes it feel more live/human/organic.

And I swear, the percussion grows on you! <3 80's Akai drum machines.

Ok, I like the track but there were some things that were kind of... jarring.

Like the bass drum rhythm just felt kind of weird. Same with the tambourine or whatever it is.

Overall in the first half of the song it seemed like there were a ton of different levels of energies in the instruments, know what I mean? Like there's some sort of disconnection between them. But then it comes together in the second half. 1:07 is sex. So is the ending.

So, after writing all this and thinking about it, I really like how this track changes as you listen to it. Very Summer. Not to get too in depth but it's so much Summer that you don't realize how much you're enjoying yourself until it's over and it leaves you with a bittersweetness akin to **** it I'm talking out my ass. Is that what you were going for?

Oh and I think the 8bit-ness he was talking about is in how the drums sound sort of fake. Like a drum pad or something. I kind of like the mess of contrast.

Oh, haha. I know nothing about it so I wouldn't know.

          Thanks for the info!

But yeah it does grow on you.

            My remix is better :[

Actually this is really cool. The snare sounds like it'd fit better with a Duran Duran track than this, but for some reason I like it.

My only complaint is that you could have used more of the original melody, but based off of the title, that didn't seem to be your intent.

            Good work.

Just keep listening. Those tambourines will rot your soul. Think break is magical.

It's supposed to sound a little broken. It's kind of where the "Fragments" in the song name comes from.

Actually, you're pretty damn close. It's not incredibly subtle or cryptic but you got the picture more or less.

Actually, this track reminds me of Erothyme's remix of Cuddly Cacti, in a way. :p

Cyanite you just admitted to listening to Duran Duran bro don't try to deny it it'll become more true

It's hard for me to explain... What I was trying to get at is that your interpretation of KgZ's song reminded me of how Erothyme interpreted your song. Not so much the musical similarities.

Although you did both use a similar progression and strong drums.

I suppose I can catch what you're getting at. Nonetheless I take it as a compliment because Erothyme's remix is amazing.
