Basic Rules:
There are several rules that apply to this competition, and failure to comply WILL immediately result in disqualification of your file, and possibly banishment from future competitions.
The following rules are placed with loving care.
1:
Do NOT talk about the DDR Encore Elimination Style Stepmania Simfile Contest.
Seriously though,
1:
All files submitted must have the following files included:
- MP3 (more than 1:15 in length, NO LONG VERSIONS)
- .SM file
- Readme (including all information you'd like to disclose about your file)
Graphics are voluntary, as I will provide graphics for every file before release in classic DDR Universe style, as seen here using a couple DDR Encore files:

No background images will be provided, as they have a tendency to distract from the stepchart
itself. If you include images other than a personal CD-Title, they will be removed from the file
prior to the competition.
2:
All files will need to have the following difficulties included:
- Singles Beginner
- Singles Light
- Singles Standard
- Singles Heavy
All additional difficulties will NOT be required, but you never know, they may just poke some extra favor as effort from your peers.
3:
This is not a keyboard competition. All files MUST be strictly DDR style. No Mines, no Hands, no extended 32th drills. Boss songs are accepted, but most songs do not offer enough to justify that 10 foot rating. Gimmicks are fine if they fit the song, so no changing the BPM for absolutely no reason, or placing stops everywhere while the song/bass continues going. That just gets obnoxious and annoying SUPER fast, no matter how creative it is.
4:
If you enter the competition, you will need to be available to provide fair and impartial feedback for all other files entered. When rating other files, be as specific about what you do and do not like about their file. Just saying "LOL 1/10" will not be accepted. If they put a crossover in a very appropriate location, tell us. If there is a 16th drill that came out of nowhere on the beginner chart, tell us. Being specific is a major plus, and we'll be looking out for it.
5:
Songchoice will be decided by way of category. Before registration, I will provide a category. All entrants will need to choose a song from that category/musical genre, and register a file through me. I will keep a list for each round with me. You can change your file as many times as you want, but you must be able to finish the file in the week provided.
The category will never be obscure, nor will it have so few available songs that choosing a file will be difficult. No files may be registered by more than one entrant.
6:
All files will be placed on the DDR Encore Stepmania Cabinet for play on feet. This machine will be available at Mr. Biggs FFC in Colorado Springs. If you do not want your file placed on the machine, please let us know ahead of time. We'll make sure to keep it off there for you.
As of this post, Registration is available through the DDR Encore forums, via the "DDR Encore Elimination Style Stepmania Simfile Contest" Subforum. Please register in the forums and introduce yourself. The competition will begin as of December 1st, as seen in the beginning timeline stated above. If we reach the 64 file mark in the first round, I will be providing a qualifying category, which the following DDR Encore members will judge, and choose the best 64 entrants into the competition:
- Spork!
- Razma
- Chaoz
Please ask any questions that you are unsure of in the DDR Encore forums. We're happy to answer any that you may have
tl:dr
Each file entered will be placed in a tournament bracket, like in an actual DDR Tournament. Each matchup will be given a thread for comments and votes. If you "beat" your opponent, you go to the next round and have a week to make the next file for the next category.
