Liquid Tension Experiment File - Please Review

Alright, so in effort to become a "top stepper" I realized that I needed to start stepping different music. I needed a challenge too. So I decided to look into some of GLoVE's DT files to learn from the master. I then tried to recreate his style (mostly his style I guess) with a different song: When the Water Breaks (by LTE). Overall it seemed like everything went smoothly until the end where things didn't layer too well. I think I chose the lesser of the two evils: either step just the drums or guitar, or layer them and creat some somewhat messy looking steps.

Anyways I'd like to get some feedback here. How was the file overall? Was the layering alright? Should I have done it differently? More detail with the drums? Stuff like that.

    Here's the file: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...p?songid=31927

    Thanks guys!

    -Nick

The freezes at the beginning didn't need freezes, just layer them as jumps.
Were the BPM changes correct? I have no idea.
Pretty sure the roll at m11 was incorrect, but it was hard to hear at 0.3x.
Almost all of the sounds except the jumps you stepped at m13 and such were COMPLETELY inaudible.
I slowed it down at could literally not hear ANY of the sounds, especially those 32nds.
That could be my speakers, but I doubt it.
Lots of things like m15 jump were offsync.
So was the 64th right before m16.
In fact, starting at m16, song got COMPLETELY offsync for me.
I didn't play past there because what was there was really bad, no offense.
Maybe someone else can explain what happened with THEIR computers.
It could be just me, but I doubt it.

I assume you were referring to the piano in which case some of the notes could only be heard on certain speeds. Some things were tough to hear though . I slowed everything way down for the basic BPM changes and it all sounded dead-on, but.... eh ****. I wasn't sure what to do in places .

*edit* Oh and those 32nds at the start are there. At least I recall being pretty sure at the time I placed them. I'll double check.

What did you think? I appreciate robertsona's criticism, but I have to disagree regarding the sync. I spent forever on those little tempo changes to mainatin sync related to the main drum hits. If any of them are off it's gotta be EXTREMELY slight. Too slight to be caught without the assistance of some other program. I mean I doubt there was a glitch when I uploaded it, but I still want a second opinion.

You're right, yet I've made that bad choice numerous times .

            good f*cking luck

            that is all
It took forever to step this tiny little segment. And the potential towards the end wasn't even really that great. I guess the segment selection is absolutely critical for producing good steps.

EW already stepped the full song.. and it isn't to bad so I don't know why you decided to step it.

I kinda sorta told him to, lol

Besides, who would really want to play a 17 minute sim? Pretty dumb to step the entire song, imo.

so here's the thing with lte or dream theater

                              1. find a good song
                              2. find a steppable segment (this is actually quite hard)
                              3. figure out how you want to do your sync (planning is crucial, believe it or not)
                              4. do the sync
                              5. place your patterns, keeping in mind your layering, your own expressive style, and remember to stay in sync

and then hope for the best. even then you'd probably still have to be pretty lucky
                              (´・ω・`)
