Spread is the best. This really isn't a matter of opinion: Spread simply is the best. Easier to do faster things.

Most basic way to play spread is to remap keys to ASKL. Put left middle finger on A, left index on S, right index on k, and right middle finger on L. I remap my keys to SDJK, but most people do ASKL.

the best as in the easiest to play with or the most enjoyable?

spread is the easiest but it might feel like 'cheating' to you; basically every song FMO or under has been done well index or one-handed, so it's up to you what you want to strive with
