So I want to buy a drum kit...

I know there's a thread on this elsewhere, but it's a different person in a different situation.

So anyways, I'd like a fellow drummer's opinion on what I should get. I've been playing for about 14 years now (since I was 5, I'm not joking either), so I know my way around a kit to say the least. I've never owned a full kit, mostly due to a lack of desire. Now, I'm looking.

I don't want an electric one. I like acoustic a lot more, mostly because I just feel it sounds much better. I'm looking for a 5pc kit. Also looking for a double bass pedal, but that's a separate purchase. I already have a snare, ride cymbal, and splash. Hardware+cymbals on the kit is a must (I don't really have much )

Budget is ~$700, but if I can get cheaper and better quality, I'm fine with that

So drummers of FFR, help me out. Where should I start?

If you have the room and adequate space from neighbors, get a normal drumset. I think electric are just fine as long as you keep it to drum sounds. double bass pedal isn't necessary, get the kit first. also get a kit with its own snare, it comes with a stand. mess around on different kits before you buy is your best bet for what you want.
That's cool Mario, but how come whenever you eat mushrooms, everything gets bigger but your dick?

I have the space, not an issue in the least. I'm planning on getting one with a snare, but I probably won't use it. Much more likely to sell it. I can't part with my perfectly tuned (imo anyways) Chad Smith signature series pearl snare.

Pearl all the way, best chose you will ever make.

Small but good sounding, you will have to add onto it as this is more a beginners set.

If you're as experienced as you say, I suggest you disregard everything anyone has said thus far, go down to one o' them big music stores, try some things out, and pick what you like best. I doubt if anyone with a greater expertise than the one you proclaimed will come about here.

            ps L0NEvvolf, there's a difference between a "beginner's set" and a basic kit dumbass

To each their own. The snare sounds great, that's all that matters.

I suppose that idea would work, but the music stores are a bit of a drive. I didn't think anyone with more years would come about, just wanted other opinions. Thanks for the input.

Where in Wisconsin are you from? If you're near Madison, there's this place called Ward-Brodt Music Mall that has a bunch of selections. That's where I bought my good clarinet.

Well I obviously know that, but for someone who has been playing as long as him, he deserves a much bigger kit, to have some fun with.

I started building mine after a year.

I'm actually about an hour due east of Madison. Where in Madison is it located? I'm sure I could google-map it, but I'm always up for a trip to Madtown

                      Edit:

Do you own this kit? If so, what/how long have you been playing on it? How good are the stock heads?

If not, I like Pearl as it is, that's probably what I'm going to get anyways. It's pretty much all I own. My splash is a pearl (8") and it still sounds great, and has lasted me almost 9 years. My hi-hat is also pearl (14") but I'm not as big a fan of that. It works, but I've heard better.
