MalDON told me about it just after it happened.
          Apparently it happened near him.

                Oh dear, that's horrible.

Somebody is going to have to answer for these deaths, because this crash had to have been somebody's fault in one way or another.

You heard this from a Canadian site? Wow, trains really aren't that safe.

The cause of the crash would be investigated? I'm pretty sure it's: two trains on the same track heading towards each other crash.

But for those who died in this RIP

Re: Head on train crash in California

I actually responded to that as I was about to head out to practice rescue repelling off Stoney Pointe when it happened. As I got out and grabbed my harness (it has most of my medical gear on it) there was a USAR team that had just arrived and we ended up all carrying their stretchers and packs in with us, through the backyards of houses for just a mile to just get there. (it was about 80 pounds per guy, jogging in). They ended up putting me with the intermediate to immediate section of the triage area, under an EMS supervisor named Captain Cressi.

I've never dealt with so many patients at once and they kept coming as they would pull them out of the train. My line kit is actually fairly simple. A bunch of rags and bandages, solution, lots of tape. Just lots of the essentials. Ran out of all of it.

People from the train who weren't badly hurt and those from the area showed up would help collect scraps to use on the next patient since there wasn't enough medical supplies until close to the end. They also would collect a patient's belongings and give them to the ambulance drivers.

When I came home and watched the news, I actually saw myself on it. I heard the newscaster say a guy who had to get surgery for a compound fracture to his leg, and I think wow, that's the same guy I had to make a splint out of a cardboard box and a sheet we found nearby. I remember his name and everything.

I had some time to survey the crash site after things closed up. I don't know how anyone survived in that first car, to be honest..

You said it yourself man. They are looking for the cause of the crash, not what happened. They want to know how the two trains got on the same track in the first place.

                            A) What's a Canadian site have to do with anything?
                            B) Why aren't they that safe, does this happen often? I'd say trains are pretty damn safe as far as statistics are concerned.

                              1)Trains are extremely safe.
2)I pulled up the first google search link for "train crash in California" for that day, and copy pasted that. It just happened to be a Canadian link. News travels fast eh?
3)The cause of the crash was not a mechanical error. Reporters are saying that the engineer was TEXTING less than a minute before the trains collided. Metrolink has taken full blame for all of this.

and SpookG, I commend you for your efforts. I was at work, doing afterschool care at Chatsworth Hills Academy. I did all I could as well.
