    Does Reason Have Autosave !?

What the crap, So I was working on a song, and actually enjoying the way it was turning out(which hasn't happened in a while) and my computer crashed. Now, with ableton i can just start it back up and it asks me if i want to restore my stuff.. but not with reason.. no no no..
Don't get me wrong, I love reason to death. But GAAAAHHHh

so anyway, here's the song I was working on, I got lucky enough to export as an audio file at one point. But there's NO ending missing stuff and it's making me cry! T_T

    http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/163211

give it a listen and tell me if it's ok for me to be upset for losing this one.

You should give 8bit a shot kage.

And the save feature works just fine, unless you're working with large sample files that cause the save file to be HUGE and take 3-5 minutes to save.

It sounds like wannabe Saskrotch, but since Saskrotch does it so godly, you do it just fine.

I'm not saying it's bad, in fact, I like it. Only thing is the beginning doesn't feel super strong compared to like 45 seconds in.

yeah i've got another song much closer to saskrotch as far as the 8bit tunes go this was supposed to be much slower.

and KGZ I have 2gb of ram but i'm using rns files that are 90-200 mb in size due to sampling. Because I don't want to be using all reason presets.

how the hell do you have a 200 mb save file? First off thats just redicuous, second off I still dont see why it would take 3-5 minutes to save.

Fourthly, I personally hit ctrl-s like every minute or so. File corruption has only happened to me once.. I learnt from that.

Hehe yeah it's pretty ridiculous, alot of my synths and sounds are resampled so I'm using a gang of NN-XT and 19's and I self contain when I save. I don't know why but I've never had it crash on me so I never really thought about it. But when they start to get really big it literally takes forever to be able to do anything and it bugs me when I'm in a groove and just pounding out stuff real quick. A 5 minute break throws me off my tracks. Like, opening my tracks nowadays is a good 5-10 minute operation. I usually just open them up and go smoke a cigarette lol.

FL doesn't have a restore function that like either, so I feel you. I've lost a number of projects to crashes, and blackouts, and cursed the inspiration goddess about it. SORRY TO HEAR THAT! =(

My FL has a recover function, for the last file you saved (does not always work)
                    Its in your main folder

Not sure if that would help. Believe it or not, but Reason is VERY CPU efficient.

Yeah, I use the samplers in reason which have much more control for making an instrument than ableton, and generally reason is way better with CPU than Ableton.

I dunno just one of those things man

Re: Does Reason Have Autosave !?

I have no idea why you come up a reason file using 200mb insize with a production like this. 8bit should be lesser in size (eg: 16bit vs 8 bit is half the size). Same goes for 44Khz vs 22Khz.

As I am listening to your production, it just sounds like really cool. It remembers me of the time playing on my MSX or C64 (for those who can't remember, then you are too young too understand).

But seriously, I think if you would loop it right, most PSG 8 bit sounds should really not take more then 1kb in size... Since these 'algorhythms' are based on the basis of analogue sounds: square, saw, triangle and sine.

Just as a reference, I just sat here and created this sequence while I was typing this post. Ok, it is probably crap, but I think this is simply what I am getting too:

I am just using a single subtractor, not using any samples to create these '8-bit' sounds.

                          psg sounds

If I would actually spend more time into this I could even emulate the complete PSG from the MSX computers which has 15 algorythms to start with, and a couple of 'LFOs'. I dont really have the specs of the C64 or the NES on that though. But if I would just look them up, I think I could even recreate those using reason balls on accurate. Since they are simply based on algorythms. So you really don't need to resample those for 10 seconds just to recreate the sounds.

But thats just my personal opinion about that.

Other then that, I do give you respect though. That you spend the time and effort to sample these kind of sounds and park them in the NN-XT. Looping them to make them sound right... Must be a crap load of work just to get that track up and running!

yeah the thing is i'm actually using samples from a nintendo NES we're talking a .5 megabyte wav sample for each note on the keyboard from c1-c5 took me about 6 hours in total to make those intstruments i'm sure I could have refined them a bit but after working for that long I was done.
