I don't think it's much of a problem, except for teen pregnancy. What I don't understand is, the other day, I saw a commercial that was talking about waiting to have sex, but, when you turn 18, STD's don't just magically disappear, so what's the difference?

And that it's illegal in California, is ignorant.

Not suere where you want to go with this. Kids are kids, they'll want to learn and have sex. The only reason why people see an "underaged" kid having sex with an adult is that the adult is more conscious of what they are doing.

After all, your age is only a number. Some kids are very mature at 15 while some adults are never mature even at 50.

It's a shame that people make sex seem as though it's a crime. Honestly, the only reason I frown upon underaged sex is because some people are too hasty and such a lack of patience may increase the STDs in our population. Of course, like NFD said, it's not as though STDs magically disappear when you turn 18 anyways. I'm sure that even these children who have sex these days have already learned about the consequences of sex and if they aren't ready for it, they will have to deal with their problems. However, we don't need to add to their problems by giving them unnecessary charges. Next thing you know, people will be getting charged for kissing their boyfriend/girlfriend.

I believe that they should be charged, both the adult and the under aged child, with a misdemeanor. While the adult is over the age of legality, they still engaged in intercourse with an under aged person.

I don't know this is an unbalance arguement because aome say its legal and some say not.
I personally think it should not matter, unless your underage and your partner isn't.

I feel that this also falls into the same topic similar to military perspective of homosexuality: Don't ask, don't tell. If two under-aged parties decide to engage in sexual activity, that is really their decision and responsibility, not undermining parent's rules or whatever, just something two mature under-aged people are interested in doing.

I agree with Verruckter that age is in fact as simple as a number, but then again there are the laws.

But to defend my point, I don't think the two who engaged in the activity should tell the whole world what they just did; unless the parents found out that this has happened, they should keep it under wraps, telling only those they trust like friends, etc.

It's appalling that the law has to play a role in this because it is a right of choice, not a crime (unless it was rape). Since they are minors, it should be parents' responsibility to handle what their kids are getting into. They set the rules, they tell them what's right and wrong, and let the minor deal with the consequences in their actions.

Going to jail over this is irrational.

If they're both underage I think it should just be a slap on the wrist.
The laws are there for a reason, however if you're that young, you don't know everything.

Err, I could not understand half of what the OP said, so I'll do my best here.

The given scenario says that two underage (that is, under the age of 18) teenagers had sex, and the question is should they be prosecuted. I believe that so as long as the two parties agree with eachother that it's something they really want too go through with, and they both feel it's within their best interest, then it's fine, and shouldn't be anybodys business.

I didn't take the age factor into consideration here because since they are both the same age, and I don't think it matters, as long as they both agreed and didn't feel preasured.

The scenario was that both are underage. Not one is adult, and the other underage.

I thinks that the question should be : why is it illegal ?

I mean why couldn't they do it ? The best thing to do would be to tell them about the consequences of their acts. If they don't listen, they should get the punishment they deserves (baby,AIDS,etc). The teenagers should be able to have sex if they know the consequences because that way, they would have been put on the same ground as the adults.

That's my opinion.

theres nothing wrong with premarital sex. As long as ya wrap it up or whip it out, its all good. I think its wrong for a premarital couple to have a baby since they are in most cases not ready.
