Yeah, that's right. Most converters read them as directions but with built in USB that shouldn't be an issue. Mine is older, I didn't realize they supported USB now. But yeah I use default/standard everything and it works great, with no lag or anything.

Maybe i just got a crap control box then. I was playing a few hard songs and i was getting weird misses (Thought it was me since i havent played in 2 years, but i played for 5 years nonstop) I know the pad probly does take some time to get use to though.
Hey, our local cybercafe has had a setup with two cobalt fluxes hooked up to stepmania for over a year. I'm going there within the next week, I can get the information for you if you still want it.

It is easy to hit extra panels if you're used to the arcades' separation. Without brackets you have to move slightly more to avoid stepping on multiple panels, which can trigger weird stuff occasionally.

I forgot to mention, I got the arcade mod with it. Don't you think judge 4 seems really strict for pad? Or did you just get use to it after time?
On 3.9 default theme everything works fine for me without any special adjustments. It might be an issue with your PS2>USB converter or your drivers.
Make sure that your drivers read the arrows as buttons rather than directions otherwise you will have issues with conflicting inputs.
So yeah, the control box just randomly died on me. CF said they would send out a new one right away though (Hope it doesn't take too long). Maybe I can get a decent score now :P
