Yeah pretty much what he said.
If you do not have access to Photoshop,
you could possibly post it here, and I will crop it for you.
EDIT:
It's not completely possible to get rid of all the white in the image,
unless you are using it for another picture. If you understand what I mean.Last edited by LLaMaSaUceYup; 07-6-2008, 03:02 PM.Comment

If all you have is paint, you can't. Paint doesn't have transparency.
If you have Photoshop or some similar freeware, you can remove it.
I used to use a program called IrfanView for making solid-color backgrounds go away. If you don't have Photoshop, give that a try.Comment

Re: How to get rid of white backgrounds?
when you go to make your new document, simply change the background content to transparent, this will make it have no background, then save it as a .png and your done. To get rid of an existing one, just delete the white and save it as a .png. Key thing is to save it as a .png.

Re: How to get rid of white backgrounds?
It is possible, use the color to alpha feature. I know gimp has it, but I'm pretty sure I used it in photoshop before, but it's been a long time since I was able to use it. If you make the color white to alpha, every bit of white everywhere will be transparent, but I don't recommend using it unless the rest of the picture is solid black, or you're experienced enough to know how to use it well.
