    Where do I start?

I'm interested in music composing, but the truth is I don't even know how to read notes. I took an introductory music course online but quit in the middle. It was just frustrating to learn. Some of you might be laughing, but please tell me if there's any better way to learn.

You are basically requesting something which may take years to learn well, without learning the essentials and the basis to music-writing.
Come back when you are ready.

          Re: Where do I start?

Knowing someone who also has an interest in music is a very important part of creating it. They can introduce you and teach you many new things, but remember that you can't learn every style from one person. It's good to expand what you hear so you can find what style fits you best.

If you have a specific instrument that you think you'd like to play, you should try it. Personally I found piano the most beneficial, especially to one who wishes to compose their own music because everything can be laid out from a low pitch to a high pitch across the instrument. If you ever consider composing, piano is a great instrument to take up. Music theory is best visualized through a keyboard.

I only took 3 years of piano, and regret it; I'll probably never sightread or play as well as I once did, but the knowledge of it has led me to play other instruments such as trumpet and guitar. A personal music teacher is the best way to go from my own experience (however I don't have one at the moment).

If you're in school and seriously consider composing music, it'd be a good decision to take up band or orchestra, or whatever your school offers. If you want to take it seriously, then you should pay a teacher to get private lessons.

I started writing music before I knew my major scales. But definitely learn how to read music. It's really not that difficult and should take a day at the most.

Mastering it is a different story. The more you practice the better you get.
Sometimes I feel like I'm going nowhere and that there's probably a better method to practice to get better faster. You should open yourself to all kinds of music, theories, and methods of practice to become the very best that no one ever was.

Sleeplessdragn basically nailed it on the head. Before you do anything with music, learn to read it. I recommend learning to read both piano clefs (treble and bass) before moving on to anything else.

Music takes patience. Hell, I was wrapped up in music for most of elementary school, and as soon as I got into middle school band, I practically had to start over as far as reading is concerned. If you're the type that wants the benefits of music right away, you probably don't want to compose.

Pick up a base clef instrument and a treble clef instrument and learn to read and play them. 3 years from now you can compose a full piece for a middle school band.

Indeed. You'll find that many FFR artists learned from their firsts songs, particularly mine >_>

I can moce my fingers so fast from FFR, I should really learn to play piano to start composing, I know if I got all that stuff down, I'd be the next Stargroup, snd step my own music for FFR.

wow dude youre even dumber than i thought

you don't ~mOvE yA FinGeRs FaSt~ at all, and FFR/SM skill doesn't carry over to piano. The two are barely connected to each other. How does movin ya fingers fast on FFR help you compose? Seriously. Playing piano is barely affected by FFR or anything. Piano is more over coordination, wrist/arm work, and everything. The only way it could help, probably, is by helping you a whack a key a million times in a row quickly and trill.

Atleast he's got potential interests. Besides, I'm pretty certain that finger speed and stamina can carry over to the piano should he learn how to play properly.

there actually is a sort of carry over, i can hold rhythms better with my right ring finger after using it for FFR/SM and im sure it would benefit my other weak fingers as well, but it doesn't actually help you play the instrument or make music.

OP, find some songs you really like and try to learn how to play them on an instrument, then learn how that song was made, and what the song is made up of, and then you'll start to really get into music. that's what i try to do anyways.
