New Coldplay album. How is it? I've only gotten a sneak at random songs.

Re: Viva La Vida
It found it to be an unbelievable album, but of course I'm a huge Coldplay fan so I might just be sounding like a rambling fan, but I'll tell you what I liked about it. As usual I found the lyrics very good and the very brilliant instrumentals in many of the songs. There are a few songs with tribal like drum beats which I found cool and interesting. There is a 50% chance your pillow will eat you while you are sleeping. -
Re: Viva La Vida
Screw coldplay they copy joe satriani songs this includes viva la whatever they have the exact same tone and joe came up with it years before. No one in coldplay has any actual talent they all suck.Comment

Re: Viva La Vida
To nubzpwnzer: It's called having musical influence. Coldplay didn't diliberately decide to copy Joe Satriani, they just took part of his sound and made it their own, bands do this all the time. And they definetly have talent.
I haven't gotten a chance to listen to the new album yet, but I have been listening to Parachutes a lot lately.Comment

Re: Viva La Vida
Maybe they did copy them, but honestly there are tons of artists out there that may have copied a song, but I frankly don't care as long as a song is fun to listen too. There is always bound to be a few songs that are similar in nature, I mean its not like every song is going to be different in ever aspect from every other song.
They were probably just influenced by them, this happens alot with bands so don't take it so seriously. There is a 50% chance your pillow will eat you while you are sleeping.Comment

Re: Viva La Vida
You're a dick.
No, let me re-phrase.
I've seen trolling like this from other users. This include Blazze. You're a no-talent hack and an even worse critic.
Playing instruments, even if (IF!) you're riffing someone else, takes talent. And I'm not sure if you've actually listened to Chris Martin sing, but he's got a huge range - oh, hey, look. Talent.
Coming up with your own stuff is half the battle. Actually being able to pull it off requires more than whatever you're giving them credit for.

I've heard nothing but good things about the album. The music review group I listen to - Subrosa Sounds on Xanga - called the album surprisingly good, despite the fact that Coldplay's single ambition seems to be playing all the stadiums ever made to sold out crowds and that they're just fine writing power ballads, please and thank you. I would suggest checking them out if you've got a few minutes to kill. The Coldplay update was Subrosa's first new post in quite a while, but they've got a good ear for relatively unknown music."A new take on the epic fantasy genre... Darkly comic, relatable characters... twisted storyline."

Re: Viva La Vida
Who is this "Joe" character?
If he is that Creaky Boards guy, than holy crap screw him.
Their songs sound nothing alike.
Also, I love the kind-of-progressive rock songs, especially Yes.

Re: Viva La Vida
It's not so much that they copied someone its who they copied. Joe Satriani is a legend among guitar players, and the fact that he was copied is a shame. Coldplay in my book sucks no matter what anyone says and I could care otherwise. If you like coldplay good for you, but just remember they copy other people's music so the people that they copy are good not them.Comment

Re: Viva La Vida
Uh... They took the basic melody. But if you lay it out on a note chart, they're completely separate. Mainly because Satch plays a kickass guitar and there's no such to be found in the Coldplay song. It's a very, very basic rise and crescendo. Granted, they sound kind of similar, but I think it's a reach.
EDIT: But the mashup of the two songs on Youtube sounds better than than the Coldplay OR Joe song independently."A new take on the epic fantasy genre... Darkly comic, relatable characters... twisted storyline."

Re: Viva La Vida
hey guys
if i take this one song and slow it down and change the pitch and alter a few other things it sounds kinda like this other song
ripoff!
I wrote somewhere that when I first heard Viva la Vida, it sounded like a song I had heard before. And since I never heard of Joe Satriani before, it couldn't have been him.
You know what it sounds like? It sounds like Coldplay. Mash up Clocks with this song.
Also, you can't prove that they copied another band. It's entirely possible for someone to come up with something they think is unique only to realize someone else has already done it. And with literally billions of songs in our world now, you'd think it would be obvious this would happen.
Here's what you take away from all this: It's still a good song regardless.Last edited by Squeek; 06-27-2008, 03:21 AM.Comment
