    Inspiration?

I'm sure threads like these have been made before, but I think it's a good topic to discuss.

I'm not necessarially looking for inspiration -- rather, I'm just curious as to where people draw their inspiration for writing music.

Personally I get a lot of mine from listening to music similar to my own style, but obviously done in a more professional manner... it gives me ideas that I can actually use in my own music, but I never actually copy concepts directly from other people's music. Gaia Frequency by Skyform is probably one of the most inspiring songs I've ever heard, personally.

Also, for some reason I can always make great music when I go to Chicago. The city's atmosphere is completely opposite from the rural community I live in, and it always inspires me creatively.

    Re: Inspiration?

I draw a lot of my music inspirations from playing my 80's Gameboy and NES. Generally vintage video games. It's amazing how well constructed the songs are for being limited to only 4 channels of sound.

I honestly don't listen to any chip artists, I've heard some saskrotch and sabrepulse here or there, but thats it.
put on a donk on it

Rachmaninoff is my biggest influence. I've gone as far as unconsciously stealing a few segments of his stuff in my work. I'm trying to look for his Symphony Number 2 and do a score analysis of it. I've already analyzed his 2nd and 3rd Piano Concertos.

        Re: Inspiration?

I draw a lot of inspiration not by emotions that I might be feeling, which is great inspiration by the way, but a lot of times by emotions that I WANT to be feeling. Sometimes I feel like this is a lot stronger than emotions I am currently experiencing, because the want for something is conceptualized stronger than the self-assessment of my current feelings.
