Newest animated show based on Spider-man.
I love it.
It seems to take elements from all sorts of other adaptations, but also has some original ideas as well. Sources seem to vary from classic continuity to Ultimate comics, to the live action films. But it's all good. For instance, they've already tackled the symbiote idea, and they took it in a way akin to the live action film... except different. The symbiote starts as just turning his normal costume black like in the film, but over a period of time, it eventually bonds to Peter directly and becomes full-on Venom style (although, the artistic style on it is SLIGHTLY different), along with the ideas of it turning into normal clothes, or that the symbiote has a "dimensional pocket". And they did something original with the way Peter overcomes the symbiote in the church tower, and even though it was something totally different, I really liked the way they handled it.
And something else you might care to notice: he does use web shooters. No organic webbing here. Except the Venom suit... that does have organic webbing... and it's black, like the film. See, they've got logical bits and pieces from different sources and combine them together well.
The parts without Spider-man aren't as interesting most of the time, but I would say that the action and quips of this incarnation are the absolute best I've heard, EVER. Period. Best Spider-man ever, and the fact they're starting out with Peter as a junior in high school, and introduce Mary Jane during the show, with Gwen having already been identified as a long-time friend, makes for a damn fine incarnation of Peter as well.
I particularly like the fact that Spider-man in this carnation is actually small, rather than other animated versions where he is depicted as physically rather technically bulky (see: '90s cartoon). I also like the way they gave Peter a means of distinction, to make him look more unique (he's got a mole or something... check it out, you'll see what I mean). It's great. Oh and art styles, I might as well point out the webbing in the arm pits. I really like seeing that. The pupils are a bit distracting from time to time, but with how much they nailed a ton of other things, I am more than willing to overlook it.
If you're interested in seeing it, try googling it... It's rather easy to come by. I think they're done with this season now, too, so I'm looking forward to a DVD set coming before much longer.
The only problem I have with it, is ironically also part of why I liked it so much. They touch on SO much. It almost feels like they weren't expecting a second season, so they hammered everything awesome out at once. This makes for a high ratio of awesome per episode, but other things also feel like they're used up completely too fast (Venom, for instance, seems to be completely defeated within 1 episode, and that's after a multiple episode arc of Spidey using the symbiote costume, and actually, in its defense, they didn't KILL OFF Venom either, so he could come back, but it's just like, yeah it's awesome, but I want it to last, too).
ps this is what to expect from the art style:

Pretty similar to The Batman, I think. Seriously though, even if you don't like how it looks, check out the first episode. I am confident that if you like the action and humor of Spider-man, you will love this show regardless of preconceived notions about the art style. Personally, when I first heard about the show a few months ago, and saw the first promotional art for it, I was like "wtf gay", but it's awesome, totally awesome.
