    Speeds and cutting

I've heard people talk of x1.5 speed etc. I guess thats speeding up or down, how is that done?

And what is cutting? (eg. cutting 3/4s) how is it done?

    Sorry... I'm fairly new.

    Re: Speeds and cutting

go to Settings in-game. at the top, you can change the speed that the arrows scroll at. Screencutting serves a similar purpose... you literally shrink the size of your browser window (in windowed mode) so that you see less of the game window... which simulates the arrows moving faster.

people do this because with less arrows on the screen at once, you can read it easier... once you've adjusted to it.

      Re: Speeds and cutting

You can probably still find out by looking around.

x1.5 speed would be a speed mod, in settings (in the game), if that's what you mean. If you mean by like x1.5 rate or something in SM, that's in song options.

Cutting; I'm assuming you mean screen-cutting: basically shrink the game screen, vertically, bottom-up, so that you can read the arrows better. Screen-cutting isn't used much anymore with the availability of speed mods.

I believe that cutting is rather pointless.

You shrink your actual browser window to whatever size you like by dragging the edges around.

Heh, yeah I screen cut until I can barely see the top of my combo. If your going to screen cut don't start as drastically small as what I'm at but start at a point your comfortable with. I know I'm contradicting myself here but I bet using speed mods will be the better choice over screen cutting.

If you're a reverse scroller, you can just simply scroll down until you've screencut enough, obviously.

@Frozen Beat: It's not pointless if you play on x1. It has nothing to do with a x3 speed mod... it's just how x1 scrollers increase readability. Not everybody likes the speed mods, I guess. My friend plays x1. Also, I believe there was a time when FFR didn't have speed mods.

Yeah I remember the old days when I used to screen cut, I'm even good at it now, even though I stopped and now play on 2.0x.

Screencut was used when we didn't have speed mods, though it is your choice if you would rather play that way. (like amazing Tass)

You can even use speed mods with screencut, to find a custom fit for you.

This is what I do. The advantages of speed mods don't overcome the fact that 2.0x is waaaay too slow. I've been slowly adjusting, going from 1.0x with ridiculous screencut of about 90% of the screen to 1.25x where (I'm a downscroller) I would screencut so the top of my window was level with the top of the combo. Now I'm using 1.5x and screencut to the bottom of the red News box.

                        I'm not good anymore.

Most people play with 1.75x or 2x
but you should start with 1.25x and work your way up.

From my experience screen cutting doesn't help me at all. There are less on the screen but it just gives you less time to react without spreading the notes out.
