    Sound Barrier

So I've got a new song that is pretty much done. I'm just gonna throw in a couple more little touches and it'll be finished, but I'd like to know what y'all think of it. It's called Sound Barrier (for reasons that will be apparent later).

    Sound Barrier

DL it and tell me what you think!

    EDIT: New update posted.

Your mastering skills have grown, good sir. Everything sounds very, very clear in this track.

Loved the beginning with the gated guitar and midline, set the track up so the listener expected something amazing.

Sadly, at least from my point, that doesn't seem to deliver.

The buildup to the actual chorus is fantastic. The additive synths do absolute wonders to the feeling of the song. The only real issue I have with it is that the high synth line that is going seems to be drowned out a bit with all the additive synths playing in the background. While that does create a nice effect, you loose site of that synth and it's influence in ushering the final buildup bars is lost. Try to up the higher frequencies on that synth.

From that point, it's hard to really tell that main chorus actually takes place. It jumps so quickly from the buildup to the chorus that it feels mushed and not really different parts of the song. While I do love how everything melds together in the first half of the chorus, I don't like how it's homogeneous with the buildup.

In my honest to god opinion, I think the guitar is overbearing and flashy. It gives the feeling of "OH! LOOK WHAT WE'RE DOING! OH LOOK AT ME!" Albeit, this could simply something that irks me and only me, but especially during the fade out at the end with the arps on the guitar, it seems really really really really flashy. Flashy isn't necessarily bad, but I was never one for it.

Oh, and by the way, try rendering it at a higher bitrate. 160 typically never does a song true justice.

Overall, I enjoyed most of the song, but there were just things that irked the living hell out of me. Yes, this song will be enjoyed by most people because it follows the standard of techno and merely does what people enjoy, but it doesn't strive to do much other than that. Perhaps that's what's irking me with this track, my longing for innovation.

Nice work, Gav. It's been such an absolute joy to see you grow as an artist.

        Lol, thanks Starshot.

I can see what you mean about the buildup being a tad bit fast... However, that's one thing that I actually like a lot. I've been trying to put a bit more diversity into the songs that I make as of late. Seeing as I went through a HUGE trance phase where pretty much everything was long and repetitive, the fast buildup makes for a nice change. The only major qualm I have with the buildup is the beginning.... That definitely seems too fast, but if I add much more onto it, then it will likely pass into the destructive world of repetitivity.

I can also see what you mean by the high synth not really being there.. The whole song, as you may have noticed, is based around the bass and mid-range frequencies so that the high end would stay nice and clear for things like the guitars (both solo and rythm). I tried adding just enough highs to fill various sections of the song (such as the buildup from :41 to 1:45) so that it wouldn't distract from some of the other sections (such as the sort of Bow-Bow sounding synth).

The Flashy stuff is definitely something that I was a bit hesitant about... The solo was absolutely perfect in terms of flashiness, but the arp seemed like almost too much. However, seeing as this is going to be the final song on my new album, the flashy makes for an excellent SLAMBANG ending that catches peoples attention.

I actually enjoyed this song a lot I'm with Catastrophic in saying this one is being added to my collection I enjoyed the guitar at the end I just felt as if the last guitar note played should've rung a little longer, aside from that great work!
