Imagine what we could've done with the money we spent in iraq

If you pay attention to the war you would know that the main reason that we are over there is because of the oil crises. Now we spend 30 billion dollars a month because of it. If we spent $30 billion a month on funding other fuel sources. then imagine what could've happened. we could all be riding in hydro fuel cars! if you have any comment to this please post.

What we could've done... need I make such an extensive list?

Funding for improving education, funding for medical research, better payed public officials, better crime investigation...I mean, c'mon, it goes forever...

The money could have been spent way better. It's a "r3tahd'ed" war. It has no point really.

Re: Imagine what we couldve done with the money we spent in iraq

The Constitution states we may not invade foreign countries without consent...especially with their government. Guess what. We replace Saddam Hussein and his regime with our own. Hmm...Bush broke some major laws there. Is he impeached? Of course not. The degenerates we call congressmen profit from all this, so they have no incentive to do anything. Even though he was a monster, he was their monster. Conditions weren't as bad under his rule as they are now. We had no excuse to topple his regime and replace it with our government.

Al-Queda was not situated in Iraq nor were the Islamic extremists from that country before it was invaded. So why did we go there? Oil, perhaps? If we were to secure it then we'd have a major advantage. There was no reason to invade it except to make money...considering the Bush family owns an oil business I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

With oil being near 120$, the money spent could have funded hydroelectric cars, or even make hydrogen cell cars commercially available...do you have 2 million dollars? Anybody? Really, they only cost a cool 2 MILLION DOLLARS. But no, we're forced to use oil...and guess what? The oil companies posted record profits this quarter. Foe example, Exxon Mobil posted profits of over 13 billion dollars.

The national dropout rate is hovering at 33%, with it being almost 50% in deep urban settings. We could have funded schools better and helped educate tomorrow's bleak generation. Instead, we have the Leave All Children and Teachers Behind Act and the Zero Intelligence Policy, which doesn't work anyways. We're as violent as ever, and grades are often falsified to get basic funding....how sad is that?

My father was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan for a total of 18 months...and he's payed for it. PTSD, nightmares and flashbacks, bursting out in tears at times randomly. Imagine all the men who have died fighting in this war that hasn't made much progress. Al-Queda has shown to recover in some areas of the Middle East to 9/11 levels. If the soldiers leave, then all hell will break loose, yet our senile, old, war-mongering president tries to convince us otherwise.

Yeah, 3 trillion dollars spent real wisely.

According to this federal budget pie chart (http://www.warresisters.org/pages/piechart.htm, not sure how reliable the source is), defense spending, by itself, outweighs the sum of spending in education, transportation, veterans benefits, administration of justice, natural resources, environment, foreign affairs, agriculture, energy, community and regional development, and science and technology.

Many of the aforementioned programs could have seen more than twice the funding without a war. Think how great it'd be to double the federal spending on education or scientific research or anything.

We're still living in an ancient world >__< run by primitive practices and principles.

Re: Imagine what we couldve done with the money we spent in iraq

$10 says that had we not gone for the oil in the first place, we would've seen a large amount of hybrid and/or hydrogen cars long before 2006-2008. Also note that not only are the gas stations reaping the benefits of these ludicrous gas prices, but the government refuses to do anything about it when they have all of the power that they need to stop this mess.

I'm honestly concerned about what the economy is going to be like by the time I start driving and even when I have to live on my own. Let's hope that this war ends fast.

PS: Has anyone heard of any substantial progress that we have gained while in the Middle East?

Re: Imagine what we couldve done with the money we spent in iraq

The OP said that the reason we are in Iraq is "because of the oil crisis". Contrary to popular belief, this isnt true. We invaded Iraq to bring down a powerful terrorist organization. At the time of the invasion, oil wasn't even an issue.

P.S. The OP dosent even make sense.

I don't see why we need another thread that simply states the facts of oil wars, budget crisis due to said facts, and what not. I'm sorry, I don't mean that to be rude

Don't get me wrong on this, Bush made several mistakes, but he is not entirely to blame for the problem. The head of Defense has more power than him. If Americans didn't want the war than take it up with the people who could have very easily said "NO" when they instead passed bills leading into it. Bush is not by any means the only one to blame. so let me change what you said a little.

But what makes me more mad than that are the current candidates who are saying that they can change all of this. Other than Jesus himself, no one will ever be able to turn around the current economical status of America. It is in utter despair and is likely to fall down the same slippery slope China did a while back. We are slowly trading economical standpoints with China, and there is next to no chance of stopping it. We were unable to learn from China and other country's mistakes, we just had to make them ourselves. And this is the consequence.
