    ITT Carbo plays the piano.

Well I finally found a digital camera so I can finally record stuff, albeit with low quality.

A little over a year under my belt and no formal training. Currently taking music theory in high school. I guess I'm alright.

I'll keep coming back to this thread whenever I upload something.

It's decent, but there's nothing really that makes me want to keep listening to it.

Yamaha P70. I got it relatively cheap at Guitar Center with the stand for free. But that was a sale.

Making chord progressions isn't really much of a problem: watch my first video for proof. I habitually end the first and second phrases of a call-and-response type thing V and V-I, respectively. I also even know how to throw in some Neapolitan and diminished seventh chords, too! My biggest problem is not being able to express the melody I hear in my head quick enough to play it back with the appropriate chords. Usually I'm just bashing out random chords and notes. I also get stuck on the same progressions too much. vi-IV-I-V has been especially problematic in terms of repetition.

I think I can hear the problem you mean particularly from 1:15-1:40. Also, I think the chord you end on at 1:36 sounds too unresolved for how you pick it up.

I actually think that having a varied measure sequence adds style and flavor to the improv. Keeps me on my toes! And if repetitive progressions are getting you down, try splashing melodic progressions/rhythms from different genres that still complement the key. You may discover something interesting to hear.

Sweet job my friend, sweet job.

It's a bit more complicated than that. If you wake me up at the middle of the night and you play a note on the piano, I'll be able to tell what it is for most notes (I'm bad with G through A#). But I can't sing a pitch on demand except usually D (I'm bad at matching pitch), and I can only tell what a note is on other instruments if it's a D or sometimes a B because I'm only really used to the timbre of the piano. It's kind of like between perfect and relative, I guess. If I had gotten into music earlier in my life (Sept 2006 was when I started music theory and March of last year is when I first picked up the piano), I have no doubt that I'd have perfect pitch. And there's even the possibility that I may eventually develop what can pass off as perfect pitch so long as I keep playing.

Hmmm, well I've been trying to incorporate lots of types of commonly accepted chromatic chords if that means anything. But I'm also trying to play more chords in open position and more easily in other inversions.
