I'm new, but it was love at first play.

Hello all you FFR players out there. :]
My name is Katie and I'm 17. I joined FFR yesterday and have been obsessed since. And probably will be for a long long time, hahaha.
I'm not sure what to do here, other than introduce myself... other things I love are dancing, photoshopping, RPGs, and my man. <3 And READING of course. (And Johnny Depp!) Lol.

Well, any advice for the game or the forum would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for checking me out.

Hi, welcome to FFR, plenty to do here. It's become much more than just a game. I wish I knew how to dance, maybe I should take come classes. Also, I like to read quite a bit, what kind of books do you like?

As for advice on the game, if you can manage not to suck as much as I do, then maybe that's the best advice I can give you. I personally wouldn't suggest limiting yourself to only one hand, but ultimately you should probably try different things and see what you like.

Re: I'm new, but it was love at first play.

So far I've only done the one hand/three finger method. Is this a bad idea? Lol. It seems to be working, and if it is the best in the end, then I'll stick with it. :]

As for books: Harry Potter, Twilight series, A Great & Terrible Beauty series, Jacky Faber series, and plenty of other ones. And DANCING! Yes, I'm in my 10th year of lessons. Ballet, Jazz, Pointe, Lyrical, and some random Hip-hop and Tap, too. ^_^

Hey there! You have my sister's name

Well, welcome to FFR. I'm guessing you know the basic structure of the game by now so I'll just say for the forums make sure to read the rules and stickies so you don't get in trouble.

Also, for the game, I recommend you start out playing spread. I started one-hand and now play 3 finger two-hand and regret not learning spread.

Well, there's your introduction! If you need any help feel free to message me and I'll help out

As long as you are having fun, play how you want. One handed is a fine way to play.

And wow, you have been dancing since you were maybe 7 years old or so.... I have been playing the piano for 6 years, but you can probably dance better than I play.

I played piano for 5 years... and I started dancing when I was 4, but I took three years off. :[

Anyway, I tried the spread style, but is there something I don't know?! None of the keys are working for me.

Re: I'm new, but it was love at first play.

                For spread play like this.

                left hand
                -index = left arrow key
                -middle = down arrow key

                right hand
                -middle = 6 num pad
                -index = 8 num pad.

Or you can download a program that someone else can post xD that lets u use any keys you want, like: askl, dfjk, zx,.

Re: I'm new, but it was love at first play.

                  Well, I play like this:

                  left arrow: left index finger
                  down arrow: right index finger
                  up arrow: right index finger
                  right arrow: right middle finger

I found it a good mix between one hand and spread.

I know you know MUCH MUCH more about this than I do, but are you that's right??? LOL. That would mean my fingers would be constantly crossed and awkward...

Both of you confuse me. :] I think I'll just stick with one hand/three fingers. :]

Good for you. 1 Hand 3 Fingers is the way to go!

Two hands is a very cramped and awkward style to play, for me at least, if you don't change the way the keys are setup on the keyboard. Even playing with the numpad, my arms seemed cramped. But, for somebody that doesn't want to go through so much trouble, and maybe just play the game, joining the ranks of the one-handers is just fine too.

                              Welcome to FFR, Katie.

There's a reason EnR's instructions looked weird. His left-hand configuration was backwards. Your left index finger should be on the down arrow and the middle finger on the left arrow.

As far as what style you want to play, it's all a matter of preference and what's more fun for you. A few people have done some amazing things one-handed, but spread has been proven to be the superior style for the vast majority of people. I personally played one-handed for over three years, then switched and within a couple weeks I was destroying old scores, I doubled my AAA count, starting FC-ing songs I could barely play one-handed, and I'm always inproving.
