    Your Modern Classics

What was your guys' favorite modern classic movie? (I would say....1990 and newer)

If you have more than just one, feel free to list a few and you could put some details on why.

Here are a few of mine, carefully considered:

    American History X (1998) - 10/10
-Controversial yet very amazing & moving film regarding racism. An absolute intelligent drama that sucks you into the powerful & intense storyline. Very powerful message and this movie should not NOT be seen. GO SEE IT!

    Memento (2000) - 10/10
-One of my considered "masterpieces". This film leaves you in awe with all of its subtlety. Has a wonderful structure and the storyline and movie in general is one of a kind.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) - 9.5/10
-Jim Carrey steers away from his usual mindless or mind-numbing performances to his dramatic reveal. Brilliant screenplay & the sub plots and supporting actors in this film are ingenious. Very original film.

    The Usual suspects (1995) - 10/10
-This is two movies in one. Very enjoyable the first time you watch it and even more so the second time around. This is a stone cold CLASSIC with its humor & legendary Keyser Soze. This is an absolute must see.

    Pulp Fiction (1994) - 10/10
-Probably one of the best films produced in the 90s and it's easy to see why. Fundamentally a truly outstanding movie, it is a must-see for anyone who considers themself a film buff and can handle graphic subject matter.

    Fight Club (1999) - 10/10
-Based on the novel written by Chuck Palahniuk, this film more than delivers. This is a still standoff between this movie & Pulp Fiction. This film is very unique and I believe the average movie-goer will categorize this movie as overrated. It simply is not! It is the thought-provoking ideas that makes Fight Club a brilliant film that entertains as well as enlightens.

    American Beauty (1999) - 10/10
-I'm going to start off by saying Kevin Spacey is the bomb! There is seriously no movie like this. Every viewing you will notice something new, something more funny, something more original, and it doesn't get any better than that. You need to watch this movie because words just cannot do this movie justice.

    October Sky (1999) - 9/10
-This movie is for people with hearts! Feel the enthusiasm, the challenges, and the mountains these kids climb to achieve their true goals and dreams. This movie is not for the simple minded. The characters in this film undergo so much in their lives -- death, despair, resistance, challenges, & conflicts. This is a beautiful movie in its own.

    Shawshank Redemption (1994) - 10/10
-This is one of the finest films made that could be very well considered a modern classic. It has such a poignant story about hope that keeps you on your toes for hours. That's what makes a film like this more than just a movie. Freedom from rule, bigotry, and hate. Such wonderful performances from my boys Morgan & Tim that this movie will be talked about for many years to come.

    Rounders (1998) - 10/10
-This movie is DANGEROUSLY underrated! The BEST poker film ever made, bar none. A fan of poker or poker player or not, this movie is absolutely riveting. A brilliant cast which none of tries to capture the main screen - Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Malkovich, & Martin Landeau. You simply get caught up in this story and anticipating what happens next. VERY easy going movie and after watching you will think to yourself -- there's much more to this film than cards/poker.

My two favorite I've seen in recent years are Silent Hill and Lucky Number Slevin. Silent Hill had an amazing ending, I said "oh ****!" out loud after the end; Lucky Number Slevin was a great action flick with a good plot and a great theme.

Schindler's List (1993) another must-see for any movie buff.

Jurassic Park (1993?) always a classic.

Basically all of the top-grossing films (top 10) after 1990 each year, have been great. Shawshank redemption is a great film as well.
