See, Our Music Isn't That Bad! (But Don't Tell Your Parents)

I got in a little conversation with two fellow FFR members about what genre has the most obscene lyrics that contain alcohol and drugs. So...I did a little looking around the intranets and found this:

33% of song lyrics -- from Country to Rap to Rock -- contain alcohol and drug references. A team of medical doctors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine analyzed the lyrics of 279 bestselling songs from 2005 in five genres: Rap, Country, R&B, Rock and Pop. Rap had the most references by far, followed by Country music.

    • Rap, 77 percent
    • Country, 37 percent
    • R&B, 20 percent
    • Rock, 14 percent
    • Pop, 9 percent

HEY LET'S ALL BE MEAN TO PEOPLE OVER THE INTERNET AND TELL THEM HOW POINTLESS THEIR INTERESTS ARE.

Stick a fork in it, Foilman. You cared enough to click the link.

Anyway: I wonder what the further subgenres of Rock and Roll would field. It's pretty diverse to just say "rock" after all.

Yeah now that I think about it, country makes sense. South, beer, etc.

Rap was obviously my initial thought for number 1, turns out I was right.

              Interesting stuff.

I wonder what the results would be for simply swearing. Probably still Hip-Hop at the top, but I would imagine that other types of music would shuffle through the rankings a bit.
