    How would I go about building this?

    OK, so I am learning to play Stepmania 1-handed, but right now I use the spacebar with my thumb for the left arrow. It's rather uncomfortable hitting it with the side of my thumb, so I thought about building a little apparatus to help me.

    What I want is a dome-shaped keypad thing, with 3 buttons on top and 1 on the side for my thumb. I have no idea how to build something like this, so I need someone to help me out.

    Oh, and if there is already something like this that you can buy, please link to it.

    What you just said might just make the most epic one-hander tool ever. EVER.

        Actually, in one of those science catalogues, where they advertise toys, i say exactly what you're talking about. It's a 6 button mouse in the shape of a sphere with a base for rolling. The buttons are spread around the circumfrence. I'll try and find the newspaper..

          Wouldn't it just be easier to learn to play on a regular keyboard like the rest of us? Not that this is a bad idea, but I think that learning to play the with the same stuff as everyone else should be attempted.

            It's thinking like this that prevents ideas like Foofdude's idea from coming to frution.

              not a keyboard.. but this mouse seems similar to what you're talking about.

                Re: How would I go about building this?

                I kinda get what you mean, and it could very well turn out to be one of the best one-hander tools. But you said you used the space for the left arrow, so your thumb presses it? Wouldnt it be more logical if thumb was down? For me it'd seem uncomfortable to have my three middle fingers crammed into a small area to fit the other keys, so wouldnt it be better if it was...

                Index = Left

                Middle = Up

                Ring = Right

                Thumb = Down?

                Rough sketch

                I'm a spread player, but I've been considering switching to one-hander style, seeing as though its twice as impressive to be able to FC Vertex BETA one handed then spread. And have this new keyboard would motivate me to do it, cause I just cant figure out a way that I'm comfortable playing one handed.

                    A good 4 finger one hand set-up (similar to what you are talking about)

                    On number pad use:
                    4 Index
                    8 Middle
                    6 Ring

                    then use your thumb for the down key next to the number pad. It's a very comfortable set-up.

                      The reason I don't use thumb for down is because I normally play spread, so I just converted that style into a 1-hand format.

                      Maybe if I just play a lot more my thumb will get used to hitting the key sideways.
