    I do these things so you don't have to.

    Because I'm making a life-size controller for Amplitude, it requires me to open a DDR pad. I thought I might as well take pictures to help people out.

    Bottom:

    Top:
    A private space for your group's photos and videos. Share, react, and relive moments together. Available on iOS, Android, and desktop. Free for new sign-ups.

    Circuit Board (Top):

    Basically, the top mat must come in contact with the bottom. When it touches, it accepts that as a step, and when you leave it on there, it accepts it as a hold. When dismantling this badboy, I noticed that the top and bottom sensor don't have to match up for the proper input. Only the bottom sensor sheet determines what the input will be.

    For example, if I take the bottom sensor pad for the down arrow and put the up arrow sensor of the top bad on top of it (Thus, making an input), the input is down. The top pad is only there to complete the circuit.
    To make a rudimentary outline:

    Circuit Board->Lower Pad->Upper Pad

    Therefor, as long as the circuit is completed, the input will work. The pad is so low voltage though, that I've gotten electrical tape out, and it takes place of the upper pad just fine. Of course, there's still that issue of finding a way to keep them separated if you already threw out the foam separating them.

    Will post more as I continue to work on this controller. Feel free to ask questions.

    I don't understand what's going on here, but I'm interested in seeing how your project develops. Most of my problem grasping what you're doing comes from the fact that I have never played or seen Amplitude.

      Amplitude is Harmonix's (GH 1/2, Rock Band) second game on the PS2 (FreQuency being their first), and I highly, highly recommend checking either of them out if you ever stumble across an old copy, they are the games that got me into music games and are still among my favorite.

          I've seen videos of this game. Looks very interesting and fun, and full of seizures.

              I made this thread for the sake of showing what the inside of a DDR pad looks like, as well as how it functions.

              More pictures coming soon.
