MySpace as a place to showcase music.

I understand that many artists here use MySpace. Although I still consider it an internet cesspool overall, I'm going to consider making an account simply for showcasing any music that I make.

So before I make an account, I must ask:
-Which is more frequent: Intelligent listeners or the preppy and/or ignorant crowd (precisely what I'm afraid of) which is predominantly female?
-Do you use it exclusively for music, or do you also use the social networking?
    -Is it worth it?

I might have more questions later.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by the "ignorant crowd". I've never gotten anything like that. Then again, I don't get many comments because not a lot of people know who I am.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't if you want to gain publicity and attention. Just keep in mind that no one likes everything.
Those that type horribly, take crappy pictures, and annoy you to death.

Generally, the "ignorant crowd" won't come across anything that isn't mainstream anyway. Even if they do, they'd have to add you to 'annoy' you anyway.

With that said, there's no reason to not create one, it's a good way to keep fans up-to-date with stuff you make (bulletins).

I don't have a Myspace because I could just use SoundClick without the cesspool. I mean, if you really think about it, having a Myspace to attract a crowd that SoundClick specifically seeks is kind of a weird notion.

Soundclick was one of my first choices. I'm considering using any other places for showing music.

I've use both soundclick and myspace to sell music online.

Sale wise, MySpace has been so, so, so much better then Soundclick has, simply because of the fact that more people know about MySpace in the first place.

Quite frankly, I suggest you get off your mild internet high-horse and make one. It's worth it and is a fairly good way to keep in touch with your fans.

I don't intend on selling. Not yet, anyways. I might have some of my tracks available for download, but I'll have what I consider my best songs as demos only, and maybe give the full versions to stepfile artists or animators who are interested in using them. I might sell albums in fundraisers or benefit events.

Hey Starshot, didn't you sell some albums at a fundraiser once?
