Actually, it's a Dragonball movie, which is vastly different.

Dragonball Z = Massive amounts of utter and complete epic fail. Except Cell Saga. That only had minimal amounts of fail.
Dragonball = Funny as hell and contains an actual plot.

Live action anime adaptations are destined to crash and burn as hard as possible. It's just not a good idea.

Yeah its Dragon Ball.. I'm guessing they plan to do some sequels going into Dragon Ball Z..*shrugs*

I love how this guy doesnt look anything like goku. Also, what are they going to do about the obvious muscle mass difference, make them work out until their chest and shoulders are extremely huge? That would take forever...

Yeah, they're gonna start at the end of DragonBall and are probably planning on running into DragonBall Z. Reason being: starting out DragonBall Z movie with no chance for character introduction would result in a lot of confusion, because it would jump into action VERY fast. They really want the viewers to realize that Picollo is not a good guy, so that when he helps out later on it makes for better character development (assuming that this first movie actually draws a profit, they will keep going). I wouldn't be surprised if they change things and introduce Gohan in this DragonBall film as well, just to make things easier on them when it comes time for Radditz to show up (although, again, I wouldn't be surprised if they just made all 3 Saiyans show up at the same time).

As for not looking like the characters they'll be portraying... show me ONE person who looks like Goku. You can't. And they can't do the hair either (i'm also a little worried of how they'll be handling Namekians... don't know if green skin, bald heads, antenae, etc. will work without looking silly). I'm hoping they just give Goku a consistent bed-head (even throughout the films) rather than trying to mimic the wacky anime hair. And really, Goku isn't that buff in appearance in DragonBall and early DragonBall Z. And other times, he doesn't even take on a really muscular appearance unless he's fighting, and you know, a lot of the fighting in the possible later films would need to be CG anyway. And anyway, as long as these guys work out a little and embody the persona of the character, everything should be fine.

Also yeah this news broke a long time ago. If there was any more information than "they're working on the movie now" I would have made a thread myself.

EDIT: for people unsure if the muscle mass will make a difference:



Compare the muscle tone of the furtherback Goku to the first Super Saiyan one. And if anyone can get a shot of Goku from the end of DragonBall instead of Z, the difference should be even more noticeable.

ever since ive heard about a possible live action dragonball z movie i thought it was a bad idea and kind of still this is. however, i do want to see how the movie will turn out. if they graphics like beowulf maybe itll be alright. well just have to wait for a trailer to give us an idea of how it might turn out.

It'll be called Dragonball because no one will understand where the Z comes in, i'm assuming.

Uh... The best explanation of where the 'Z' comes from in the anime is that it is the end of the series, so it has the last letter of the alphabet. But then GT came out, so it makes absolutely no sense.

"DragonBall" isn't well known. "DragonBall Z" is. I honestly would expect them to name this something like "DragonBall Z: the Beginning" or something. After all, they are doing this to capitalize on DBZ... No one gives a **** about Goku as a little kid, and actually, it is during the end of DragonBall that he stopped being a little kid.

I liked Dragonball and whatnot (I mainly mean Z) but after the whole Android thing, everything just got repetitive for me. My fav fight though was between Picollo and Android 17. That fight ruled honestly. Not a lot of standing around and not a lot of light show, just pure nasty fighting!
