Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.
It's an amazing book, I think. It's about a little boy (eight- or nine-years-old) whose father died in 9/11. He finds an envelope with a key in the bottom of a vase in his father's room, the envelope has the word "Black" on it. Oskar determines to set out throughout the boroughs of New York searching for the lock the key belongs to. He encounters many different people along the way. However, the book isn't totally about finding the lock, it's more about how Oskar matures throughout the story.
