The most underrated band in history.

To me, Devo seems to almost be known solely for their major hit, Whip It.

However, most of their BEST songs were not aired very often due to being controversial and too thought-provoking for the mainstream audience.

Here are a few of the best examples:

Song- It's a beautiful world. A song about how it's a beautiful world we live in... for you. Then it gets weird. Suddenly the happy images shift to images of war, famine, still mixed with a few happy images to keep the surreal effect. "It's a beautiful world... for you... it's not for me!"

Song- Freedom of choice. Besides Beautiful World, my personal favorite. "Freedom of choice is what you've got, freedom from choice is what you want!"

Song- Jocko Homo. Bad quality, so you might want to look up the lyrics. This song defines DEVO's name... devolution. "Monkey men all, in business suits!" It's also weird in that it's in 7/8 time.

Song- That's Good. About consumerism and material goods. "Everybody is just like you, it's true, everybody wants a good thing too!"

The only reason i object to Devo is because the way they sing is so... factual.
They always say things like they are undeniable facts that they have to tell you like, "it IS a beautiful world" somehow saying, too bad if you dont think so cause it is. I dunno, it just strikes me that everything is to staccato and accented. Just a thought.

The beautiful world song, if you watched it long enough, is saying the exact opposite.

It's making fun of the people who seem to think the world is perfect and beautiful by showing the true darkness of human nature.

You misunderstand, i mean their STYLE of singing, such as their emphasis on key words, makes it have characteristics of a pounding action.
