The only way i no how to make SIM files SM & DWI Files are by using step mania 3.9 and the standard theme (on windows).......heres how u do it...
if u have installed stepmania..
1) select the stepmania folder in there click "StepMania Tools and Package Exporter"
2) when that comes up click the button that says "create song"
3) when that comes up choose the song that u want (Note file must be either OGG or MP3 and on some computers u can use WAV)
(.:tip 1:. it should be done now, to find it select the stepmania in the start menu and click "Open StepMania Program Folder" when u see a window open up click the songs folder then u should see a folder called "My creations" dont worry u can change it. click the folder and inside it the folder with your music should b on it!!!check inside it to make sure that ther is an SM and DWI file in it then u r ready 2 go, if u want u can add picture for background and banner, u will probarbly be able to do it without my help!!)
4) open stepmania and click edit/sync songs from the main menu!!
5) pick a difficulty u want to use (such as Beginner, Heavy... u get it alreaady)
6) make sure if u want double or single or couple, u have it
7) make sure the bottom is free because u dont want to overwrite other data of songs
8) click enter and u will see the diting screen
9) before we get started u may want to edit the name of the song and to do that press "esc" on the top left hand corner of your screen, a menu should come up
10) select "edit song info" and press enter
11) change the name to what it should be (or 2 what u want it to be)
(.:tip 2:. anywhere transliteration means if it is in a differant language u can change it to what it means when u r selecting a song in game mode by pressing "F9"
12) now lets get down to step doing first we need a BPM (how fast the beat is) and to do that we press "F7" to make it slowe and "F8" to make it faster
(.:tip 3:.if u want a pause press F9 and F10 to add pauses in.. it is measured in seconds)
13) now to add steps press the number keys (not the num lock pad)1,2,3,4 (1 - left..2 - down.. 3 - up.. 4 - right)
14) press left and right to change time signature (half beats, quarter beats..u get it)
15) when u r done adding steps press "esc"
16) select edit step information and press enter
17) choose a step rating to suit how hard the song is!
18) DONT FORGET 2 SAVE IT!!!!
19) before u finish u might want to change the preview time and length and u do that by pressing the "["{"]"} buttons.
20) to check it press "M" and listen!!
21) save again and enjoy!!!
