SM Crashing, how to get around?

I'm remastering one of my stepfiles that's over 5mins long.
When I made it long ago as one of my first serious stepfiles, I set it at 348BPM, using 8th notes. While this works, I'd like to cut the whole song in half, making it 174BPM using 16ths.

Problem is, when I select the entire 5 minutes and compress x2, SM crashes... apparently it's too much to handle.

Suggestions of how to do this without completely destroying and starting anew?

It half works, but none of the other BPM changes get cut down, so it ends up going wonky. I guess this is my best bet, fixing it as I go along.

Haha, now I have 128th notes at 43.5BPM Weeee

      Anyway, thanks :P

yeah, if you do it in sections, the second section will be half of what you want, the third a quarter, etc

just do it like that and double the bpm each time

If the song has a constant bpm, just compress in sections without worrying about bpm, save and exit the editor, and delete all the bpm changes (and make sure the first BPM is correct) in Notepad or something. Otherwise, just do what dAnceguy said.

EDIT: Actually, I just tried compressing in sections, and it worked perfectly. There were no extra bpms or halving. Just the bpm change back to normal at the end of the song.
