Nice price range, I don't really know, but I've heard that Vista is buggy as hell.

Honestly, if you are going to wait, go with the AMD Phenom Chip when it comes out, it will rock Intel hardcore, as AMD always does eventually. The 8600series a little buggy, honestly I prefer ATI and the only Nvidia card out right now that trmps ATI is the 8800, so unless you are getting on of those I would go with ATI, and the drivers for ATI are fine, it was only a particular series where they sucked, but no more. and for motherboards http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131013
        I like that one.

Vista is honestly fine if you build a computer that is ment to run Vista, yes there are still some bugs but no more tahn when XP first came out, it really is a fine OS, and it does boost FPS in many games.

Oh, and for Anti-virus and what not, **** buying ****, the best programs are free Kaspersky, Spy Sweeper, adaware, or just pirate all your software.

              Epic triple post.

Go for over a 2.13ghz, maybe 2.66. and go down to 2gb of ram, corsair preferably.

              I don't go for AAA's.

Make sure it can withstand being flung off a car at 45 mph.

Seriously though, INTEL is overpriced, best AMD processor out right now is 160$, but again the Phenom Chip will be made affordable for marketability.

Re: New computer build - want opinions

i switched my memory, if im unhappy with the performance i can always buy another stick.

im going with intel/nvidia over amd/ati for less compatibility headaches and because i've never seen an ati that didn't suck. and on the 2.13, i really don't intend on doing anything too spectacular gaming-wise. i might start playing WoW, and im definitely buying Heroes 5, but mainly i just want it to run my old games at top resolution. i figure i should get 4mb cache, but beyond that i don't think i need more than 2.13. and on vista, i want this computer to last a while, like 4 years at least, so i want to be using the newer OS, and i want directx10 and aero. besides, as ive said, im waiting for sp1 to be released so im not as worried about bugs.

thanks for you comments! (and stop making fun of shash, it's not his fault that his godly mind has so much going on that he leaves a computer on top of his car...)

Looks like a good list for what you said you wanted it to do. I don't feel you need to change anything, other than maybe up the PS to 600 watts.
