Several of you may remember that I got started on creating a Giant NES Controller, four feet long, about two years ago. Well, I finally got back to work on it again. Aided by my trusty crew of FFR members and one guy you don't know (but soon will), progress has finally resumed!
Since the controller's frame had been sitting so long, it accumulated dust and baby spiders, which Kenzya and I, being the first two to work on it yesterday, decided didn't need to be part of the controller. We also had to sand down the old paint job since we decided that the first coat, being a bright white, sucked and kind of burned the eyes when out in the sun. It was also kind of rough and blotchy, so we needed to prepare it for a new coat.
We have a bit of a modified color scheme this time instead of the old colors with the original paint. I think it'll look better once it's all done, rather than settling for whatever. But you're not reading this anymore, you just want to see pictures!
Examining the schematics.

The face, base color repainted.

Controller frame, also repainted.

Math and measurements for black coat.

Taping the D-Pad border.

Refining the tape job with an X-Acto knife.

Repainting corners.

Laying down cover for black.

I think something funny was said here...

Cutting tape on button edges. Something else funny was said.

Ready for the black paint.

CapnSky paints better than I ever could.

Still paintin'...

Done, and coated a second time. Looks washed out in the sun.

Tape removed.

A little messy in some spots, but pretty damn good for now. It'll get touched up in the end.

Our progress at sunset. All of us had a part, sans my brother, who decided to sneak in the picture.

We are resuming work today, and will hopefully have the paint job finished, have our rough spots polished, and have the enamel coating done today. Check back here for continued progress either tonight or tomorrow morning!
