have any of you guys played index and then switched to spread and got alot better, because i feel that index is holding me back on the harder songs. What would be the best keys to use for spread because i think im gonna make a separate account and just practice spread on that for a few weeks to try and get the hang of it.
is it easy to switch from index to spread?

Re: is it easy to switch from index to spread?
No, it's not easy, it takes a long time of playing the one you're not used to, with trying not to play the one that you did before very much. Find whichever way works best for you. Try that left down 8 6, and stuff like askl, vbnm, etc., and see which one you feel the most comfortable with, where your keyboard can register all of the keys you're using at the same time, too.

Re: is it easy to switch from index to spread?
ive played index for about 5 (probably longer, id have to think to much to remember) years now, maybe a little more, and i switched to spread the beginning of this year, almost exactly the beginning, took me about 4 months to get really comfortable with jump stream and stuff, but i don't play spread in ffr anyway, only step mania
i use QWOP is step mania i used to use DFJK when i started spread, then a while after while doing keyboard mega pack 1.5's Jack, i realized my keyboard didn't read 3 note jumps with those keys
i can play spread in ffr now, but i still prefer to play index being i can play spread songs index anyway
its easy to switch from index to spread, its just getting used to one handed trills and jump stream, and learning jumps will get you for maybe 3-5 days
anyway, because i can play spread now, im strictly index in ffr, and strictly spread in smLast edited by [TeRa]; 07-4-2007, 12:46 AM.Comment

I played index for awhile, switched to spread. It took me 3 months to even reach any of the scores I had when I played index.Comment

Re: is it easy to switch from index to spread?
I dont know how many people play this, but I play numpad spread 2,4,6,8. Give it a try if you want.... may be hard on songs like vertex or the classical songs, but alright for very challenging songs and above... Been using it for my entire SM/FFR life.
Hope this helpsComment

it was really easy for me to switch to spread from index. i started getting similar scores in a few weeks, maximum. after that, i saw lots of improvement at rates i could only imagine as an indexer.Comment

I'm still working on the transition. My experience is about the same as Tera's. Streams are pretty easy, but jumpstreams and jumps in general are what take most of the practice. I rarely practice playing spread, I just decided to try it out and i play 1 out of 50 songs spread, but so far it hasn't been too hard.Comment

I started spread on SM a few weeks ago. Ican do jumpstream easily, but streams still kill me, especially running men and whatever you call LDURUDL etc.Last edited by LupineShadow; 07-9-2007, 12:16 PM.Yes.Comment

Re: is it easy to switch from index to spread?
It will probably take you a few weeks, minimum, before you feel comfortable with spread, but it's definitely worth the trouble. Most of the hardest FFR songs, as well as the popular stepmania files, are nearly impossible to index well.Comment
