    question about JRR Tolkeins books....

eh, im interested in reading some of JRR's books but i dont know where to start.
i dont feel like reading the LotR trilogy, cuz i already know what happens and thats alot of reading for already knowing the majority of what happens in those books.
i was thinking about along the lines of The Similarion or The Children of Hurin.
you guys have any suggestions on where i should start with his sub books?

Try "The Hobbit". It's only like a prelude to the LotR trilogy but can be read apart from them. It's the only book of his that I've read all of.

That's much more of a children's book IMO so it might not impress you. I read it back in 3rd grade for fun. Back then it was awesome. When I read it 5 years ago, ehhh. I read it right after the Lord of the Rings, which was a bad idea too.

Even though you know what happens in the trilogy the movies did not do them complete justice. They are also not nearly identical. As for the length goes, unless you're not a reader the length disappears as soon as you get through the first couple chapters and then it's hard to put down. Near the end I always wish there was more.

Also, I would not suggest reading the Silmarillion yet. It's much more of a history book so it's better after reading the LoTR (not to mention it's not as exciting).

"The Hobbit" is the best book to try if you haven't read Tolkien before. Really, I thought it was a better book then any of the books in the LotR series.
