Pirates of the Carribean: At Worlds End **Spoiler** Thread

This thread is to discuss the movie without having to worry about ruining it for everyone else. So if you havent watched it and dont want to know what happens then GET OUT NOW!!

    **************************************

I really think that they are thinking about making a 4th movie but werent completely sure whether it would pan out or not so they left a few things to lead into the storyline of the next one if they were to make it. Kind of like how they left the whole Calypso thing hanging (she made the whorl pool and then just dissapeared) and how Jack and Barbosa were on their way to the fountain of youth as well as the possibility of bringing in Wills kid to the mix.

I kind of thought it was interesting how everyone betrayed each other several times but it was all part of a big plan that they came up with as they went along.

What about that guy with the pirate code book? Was he jack's dad or his brother?

I really didnt like how dramatic they made that one bad guys death (the leader of the east india trading company) with everything blowing up behind him and then the fire consuming him. To me, it seemed like Davy Jones and Barbosa (in the first and second movies) were more evil and all they got was shot and thrown into a whorl pool. Also, why did he just sit there when he could have told everyone on his ship to fire back, he had so many cannons on both sides of his ship.

Personally i didnt think that witch lady was too important in the second. I knew she had some powers and whatnot but i never thought that she brought barbosa back to life. I totally though barbosa struck a deal with davy jones or something like jack did.

I didnt realize until the second time i watched it that the East india trading company guy commanded davy jones to kill the craken.

One last thing, was there any reference to how that East india guy and jack knew each other in the past? They said that one of them betrayed the other at one point but didnt say how or about what.

All in all, i think they wrapped it up nicely if thats going to be the last one.

Johnny Depp said in an interview, who knows how long ago, that he signed a contract for 5 parts. Goodjob.

I think that the pirate who had the code book was most definitely Jack's dad. First he asks "how is mom?" Jack Sparrow's character was largely based of of Keith Richards and that was who was playing his supposed dad.

        What .... 5 parts? I doubt that ...

But yeah, they wrapped it up pretty well.

If I was Keira Knightley's character (forgot her name), I would just die so I didn't have to wait 10 years to see Will and be all wrinkley and crap.

        //edit:
A person can definitely say "How is mom" to both his brother and his dad, so that gives away nothing.

Maybe you were thinking of the number 5 cause it took them 5 years to make the first two.

Well apparently in whichever interview (my mom is a nutty Depp fan) she said he signed for 5 movies, but I ORIGINALLY knew there'd be 4, but apparently a 5th is a possibility.

Always check your resources because actors do not always know whats going on and often are misquoted.

Also, i just checked this after jewpin had the wikipedia reference and it seems i was right on the money with my guess on how they put things in for maybe a 4th but kept things where they could end it.

They do admit that while a fourth film may happen, it is more likely "for right now, the trilogy is designed to come to a conclusion."[1] In February 2007, after filming was completed, Terry Rossio said they may try to write a screenplay, though "It's like the fourth Indiana Jones picture — there are forces in play to make it happen, and forces in play to make it not happen."[2]

Director Gore Verbinski is aware that Walt Disney Pictures would like to keep the franchise going, but regarding his involvement, feels, "The big danger is diminishing the brand... it would have to be a tale worthy of telling."[3] Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has indicated interest in a spin-off.[4] Johnny Depp has stated that he would love to play Jack Sparrow for another trilogy "if they had a good script."[5] Keira Knightley has stated that she does not wish to continue playing her character of Elizabeth Swann as she wants to do different projects.

I think what it was saying is that it would be a spin-off in that it would only follow characters like Jack and barbosa and not will or elizabeth (since she will not be coming back).

Also, i did some reading on wikipedia and it said that originally the black pearl was called the Wicked Wench and Jack was sent by Beckett to go pick up some "cargo" for him in Africa (slaves) but jack set them free so Beckett ordered the ship burned and sank. Later jack gets davy jones to bring it back up and make him captain, at which point he renames it the black pearl. This explains jack and Becketts past experiences.

So, though I really enjoyed the movie overall, did anyone else feel the way they dealt with Calypso was totally lame? They make such a big deal out of her, show her talking about utterly raping the bretheren once she's free, show her really pissed off after being freed, and then what? She makes one lame whirlpool. I mean, bound in human form she brought people back from the dead and controlled millions of "rock crabs", and all she can do one released is a whirlpool? They made her into such a central plot point, and then just sort of forgot about her.

I agree. I did not like the whole idea of Calypso at all to begin with. She will probably appear in the 4th movie, if they make it, with more destruction or something. She said that she will make everyone pay for what they did, and she didn't, so that is probably something for the next movie to get into.

Instead of taking her out to a movie and buying her popcorn, bend her over the arm of a couch. It's very economical. Just make sure you are using the proper protection, because then it can become VERY, VERY GOD DAMN UNECONOMICAL if she pops a baby 9 months down the road.

Thats a question i've been asking. my guess was that he betrayed even his own men with an agrement long before, as a last attempt to secure his own agenda after the battle because he was saying over and over . "its nothing personal, its just good business." and he wouldnt look his fellow officer in the eye.

but did anybody understand the whole betrayal thing that was going on between the witch and davy jones that squid thing
