The Wii improved my skills in baseball

Seriously this may sound stupid but....before I had the Wii i couldn't even hit the ball. Now I'm actually really good at hitting. Although my fielding sucks. Any similar stories?

    *P.S. Improved in real life

Re: The Wii improved my skills in baseball

Wii Baseball is not even remotely close to the real sport.

In fact, I'd say my skills dulled. I haven't played Baseball since getting a Wii, but I had to adjust my swing and pitch to make it work on Wii. I've played baseball for over twelve years now in almost every position imaginable, my favorite being catcher.

The only sports that are truly accurate are Bowling and Tennis. And even then, you don't really move in Wii Tennis, so it's nothing like actually playing. Just the location of the swings is accurate.

I play tennis quite regularly, and Wii tennis is nothing like the real thing

While the two are hardly comparable, I wouldn't completely discount improved batting due to improved hand-eye coordination.

Granted, I'd attribute that to growing up and having practice before Wii Sports.

Bowling practice is hard to come by because I don't want to spend $5 per game. However, with WiiSports, I've played dozens of bowling games and as a result, I got the highest real-life bowling score last month. However, jumping from 110 to 170 isn't much.

For Tennis, Baseball, and Golf, I haven't improved. I still miss every Tennis hit I do, I swing and catch no better in Baseball and in golf, I can't hit the ball farther or more accurately than I normally do.

I can't even apply boxing for anything and I'm pretty sure you don't dodge real boxing swings like you do in Wii Boxing.

Guido is right I'm sure it has improved my hand-eye coordination. I have NO previous baseball experience. I just started to play baseball this year with friends. But one thing has me confused...my fielding sucks! So maybe I'm just getting better because I'm older? Idk.

As for bowling goes i have been in a bowling league for what six years now and actually I have been doing worse since the Wii.

So I just don't know, i was just putting the idea out there that the Wii is the reason for my improvements.

            BTW golf freakin' sucks.

Re: The Wii improved my skills in baseball

The only thing inaccurate about Golf on Wii is that your club always hits the ball squarely.

That never happens in reality. Hooks and slices are all too commonplace for my swing, though, so at least that much is accurate.

Wii Golf is pretty awesome. I have a Platinum on Approach and a Gold on Target Practice. Putting is still hard, but I think I have a Gold.

                I have -5 in the 9-hole course.

Wii Golf is waaaaay too easy.
I actually have a horrible slice when I swing, but I have hit 200 Yards witha miss before, so I miht be able to hit up to 300 if I can get rid of that slice.

All I meant by this is that is somewhat difficult to control your power and that i just aren't interested in gold.

I played baseball games on PS2 and XBOX and it has since helped me.

                        That makes even less sense.

Sports games on other consoles require just pressing a button. There's practically no skill involved at all.

Actually playing baseball games on game consoles does help. It overall helps your timing.

I fail to see how that's possible.

Pressing a button at the timing of a digital 90+ MPH pitch really doesn't help you when you need to swing an actual 5+ lb baseball bat at an incoming ~60 MPH pitch.

But, whatever. If you want to draw that connection, go right ahead.

What really helps your timing is actually practicing the sport. I hear that's amazing.

NO... not anything similar to what I'm talking about.
