Our Arcade Upgraded from Extreme to Supernova

So my friends and I went to see Spiderman 3 tonight, but the show we wanted to see was sold out so we had 90 minutes to burn, so we headed down to the arcade by there to play a little DDR. Lo and behold they had upgraded to SN since last time I visited.

I had played SN once but back when I couldn't even pass 10s so it doesn't count.

Anyways, first impressions. My first thought was that the backgrounds are ****ing horrible, Note was difficult to play on a lot of times because of red or blue backgrounds (the Xephyr crossover 8th stream in the middle was nearly impossible for me to see). I then progressed to playing 10s for my 3rd and 4th round, where the life bar became ridiculous. I thought Extreme's was bad, but holy ****! It was just stupid, 2 misses in a row and you fail wtf. I then realized I couldn't read Note on doubled BPM stuff because of the blending in issue, couple that with old Extreme pads and it was pretty tough to play. I definitely prefer ITG over this crap. While it may be DDR's response to ITG, it fails to offer the sheer playability of ITG, where there's no bull**** messing with your skills.

The interface is much improved over Extreme I think, but it still could use a lot of work. The menus were better organized than that of Extreme, the noteskins were definitely much better, and the judgement display was much smoother and easier on the eyes, but the backgrounds just killed it for me. If I fail, I like it to be on my terms, not because I couldn't see a note and that is enough to take away half of my lifebar.

I like SuperNova, but I like Extreme even better. My arcade still has Extreme, but it's lined up for miles upon miles with Asians.

Ya we have a ITG machine so I don't have to worry about crap like that. The only thing that really sucks is you go there to play and Bns(kelly) or Anuj are playing and it's like man I suck compared to them why should I bother playing...

I hate the 2 note death as well. And there is this guy named Andre that goes to the mall all the time. Everyone knows him, because he's pretty god at DDR. Luckily, I don't totally suck (I can AA every song except the Paranoia Survivors)
so he let me play him. He's already AAAd all the non - boss songs and Max 300.

Maybe I'll be able to read doubled BPM stuff now.

Oddly enough, I love SuperNOVA. Partially because it has a lot of PARANOiA songs, and I haven't noticed any two-note deaths. The backgrounds could be better, but I have teriible eyesight, and I play fairly well. I like SN, but Extreme has Speed Over Beethoven. XD

Re: Our Arcade Upgraded from Extreme to Supernova

Played for a couple hours today.

I got 35 on Drop Out, 3 on Holic, 32-1-1-1 on Sakura, 18ish on Trip Machine Survivor, 92 mil on Max300, 94.5 mil 3 or 4 seperate times on HVAM (so close to the AA), 9 or 10 (can't remember) on Ecstasy, 20+cbs on V, 14 sightread on Drivin', ****ty scores on a bunch of hard stuff, 15ish on Tsugaru Apple, 15 or 16+cbs on AA sightread, 25ish on No. 13 (which I could easily improve), 12 or 13 on CSFIL (speed mix), 20ish on Maximizer, SDG on B4U (I forget what it was), and 15 I think on DXY!.

I also FCed Drop Out on extra stage which is pretty cool because I hate downscroll. I can combo really well but my PA is ****.

I've started getting used to it, and I've also figured out what noteskins to use. I play with Note on non-doubled-bpm songs and Rainbow for doubled bpms.

Improved my Drop Out by a couple of greats and finally got the HVAM AA (30 greats + a couple random CBs: I suck at doubletaps). I also improved my PS up to 90 mil and a slight improvement on Max 300 (still no AA though).

Also I suck at timing the bar jumps on Ecstasy rofl

                            and the Frozen Ray spins
