it would appear that messing with that is not as simple as you'd think...

my understanding is that the profile top10 display pulls straight from your levelrank.php. the top 10 scores on your rank. and your levelrank.php displays your #1 scores from lowest to highest score... which makes sense.

so, to change it in profile would require it to examine ALL #1 scores you've gotten, then sort them based on whatever other thing you want to sort them by (difficulty, highest score, whatever).

so you've gone from 1 simple query to at least 2, if not 3, queries. and from my understanding... the top10 display already causes HUGE server load with just the 1 query. making it 2 or even 3 would put enormous strain on the servers. the way to compensate this would be to change it from a 1 hour cache to a 24 hour cache... which would go from 24 queries to about 2-3 every day. but then people would complain that their new scores weren't showing up in their top10 (which they already do, even on the hourly cache).

get my drift?

Right I understand. But I also know you can put new criteria onto an existing query. So if the query is set-up to have levelrank ordered by rank and point value; you could add 1 new task to it's ordering (adding the order by song difficulty). Thereby keeping the 1 query you have, just rearranging it. It might cause some additional strain, but I can't see it causing much, since you still only have the one query. Maybe I'm just being naive, but it doesn't seem like you would need to create any new queries for this.

umm.. why not put the AAA's on their own score rank piece and leave the others to show up?

Because that WOULD require a new query to be made which would cause a lot of added stress to the server. My idea is basically altering an already existing query which wouldn't (I believe) cause a great deal more stress then there already is.

i'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way rade. it would require a minimum of 2x the processes. aka, the server would have to send twice as much data, work twice as hard. yada yada. if not 3x.

Maybe one day there will be ultra excellent servers that will be able to support this with ease, but for now I don't think it's worth it. If you really need to brag about your AAAs, you can post your levelrank in the levelrank thread.
