    question

i dont make much techno, but i play in a punk band, and own a small, modest, demo studio. sometimes i wanna put some drums on a guitar trach i recorded at 3 in the morning, to see how it sounds together, but my soundproofing is only to create acoustics in the live room, so i cant play that late. what i want to do, is get recordings of each drum on my kit, and be able to cue them in a song, like a drum machine or a midi note. any idea on how i could do that?

you could just download a music program for free, such as buzz, (www.buzzmachines.com) and use the built in drum machines. Also, the program lets you tweak the drums so you have many possible sounds.

Or you could record each part of your drumkit ie snare, kick hi-hats etc and load them into buzz or a demo of a sequncer like ejay or fruity loops. That way you would have your original instruments to play with.
Bear in mind that most sequencers quantize so your drumming will sound a little robotic and not have that "live" feel to it.

        Robots are rock and roll.

Sorry, Just felt like saying that. But I would suggest getting something like Buzz ( www.buzzmachines.com it's free). Good drum machines cost a pretty penny (?) and do sound robotized and being as you are in a punk band, it wont sound very good, I know, we tried using a drum machine for the band I was, but we replaced it with a drummer.

See, the rhythm guitarist kept wanting to play with the drum machine. And this was really pissing everyone else off because he was wasting time. The lead guitarist, who was also the owner and programmer of the drum machine, got so frustarted that he unplugged the drum machine and hid it, so we didnt have any drums for the rest of the night.

So then the rhythm guitarist kept taking over my Synth.

Also, we didnt have anyone to man the drum machine either, so it kept playing the same beat over and over.
