Don't say "dgaf" on these forums againthat's so stupid...just cuz some ppl are in denial the rest of them have to act as if it never happened? i really dgaf if something is controversial...the truth needs to be taught. cuz this is life, not some made up fantasy world where ppl change in accordance to your whimsy
Obviously, being politically correct and trying not to offend anyone doesn't work....so instead we should make sure everyone is offended equally.Comment

Re: Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims
Past historical incidents, such as the holocaust, should be taught in schools, but it shouldn't be a big deal if some schools choose not to. It should be the educaters and schools choice to decide if something is relevant to teach. There is so much to learn, and people can't learn everything. Personally at school we are studying the holocaust, and i can understand where the people, in relation to this article, are coming from. in my opinion, i believe people should learn about the holocaust, but if people feel a bit stand-offish about it, we shouldn't make a huge deal about it.

Re: Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims
I can understand sidestepping the crusades to avoid conflict, but since when is holocaust denial something which is part of the Islam faith?
I mean, the crusades... Yeah... a conflict from a long time ago between Christians and Muslims as Christians try to take the "Holy Land". Parallells can obviously be drawn to modern times, and moreover, this specifically involved Muslims. How is the systemic murder of Jews connected to Muslims at all so that it would validate a claim of denial of it being part of their faith?
Anyway, you could teach the crusades without going into details which might offend Muslims. Simply say "Christian warriors came from Europe to fight for land in the Middle East." This is a fact. It's when one would make claims like the Europeans were heroes or were doing good is that it can be offensive (Hell, I'd be offended if anyone claimed that the crusades were a good thing... all that killing for literally no good reason).
As for teaching creationism in classes: I just have something I want to say here on this since Guido mentioned it. Creationism isn't THAT bad of a thing. As long as they don't specify things specifically from the bible, intelligent design should be fine in public schools, so long as Evolution is taught as well, and as I just said, it doesn't make specific call backs to Genesis.
ps I've only had like one history class ever that mentioned the holocaust and I've never had a class that ever even touched the crusades.Comment

Re: Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims
Feelings should be left at the door when History is being taught. That's the problem with a lot of things that are being taught in schools today. Major World events should be taught, and I might sound cold here, but if you don't want to learn about something because "ewwww.... that's icky, nothing like that can happen that way," then you should just drop the class or keep your mouth shut. History professors in college are not going to care what your feelings are on a subject, because that isn't their job. Their job is to profess all of the knowledge they have on History to you, and it's your decision to take the information or ignore it. I just find it to be a bunch of crap that you're not going to teach something just because it might offend someone. People are too soft.Comment

Wow, just wow...Past historical incidents, such as the holocaust, should be taught in schools, but it shouldn't be a big deal if some schools choose not to. So, in your opinion it's not important to educate the masses on arguably the most atrocious event in the last 100 years?
I'd like to say you're an idiot, but since I'm a forum mod and I like to be nice, I'll just call you the dumbest person on the face of the planet.Comment

Re: Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims
The world is too scared of offending minorities. this pretty silly surely the students that are in denial about such a thing should just be allowed to excuse themselves from lessons. That way everyone is happy and educated except them.Comment

"It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial."
Ok great, but beliefs != the truth, and last I checked, people get educated to learn the truth. Things like this make me so frustrated with the way the world works.Comment

Re: Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims
Yeah, thats a good idea. They shouldnt be dropping a unit due to offending minorities. I mean, its history, it already happened. Theres nothing they can do to change that. And just like you said, if some kids have a problem with that, those select kids can leave. That way, everyone that is mature enough to be educated can be.Comment

I think akuma said it best, here.
Oh, and Spec, too.
Still, no Brits, though? Is there not any outrage going on in your country over this?

Re: Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims
That's... incredibly stupid. So, since teaching students about the most disgusting and vile thing that's happened in the past century or so might offend a few people... we're going to avoid it altogether? Good grief, these people are going to grow up thinking the holocaust didn't happen (oddly enough, there ARE people that believe that).
Wait, sorry, you lost me. What's bad about that?Comment

Retarded.
This is how it should work:
"We'll be going over the Holocaust today. If you're offended by this for some stupid religious reason that doesn't think the Holocaust happened, get out."4th Official FFR Tournament - Master division champion!
