When i was a young boy at the age of 8, i came across a game in an arcade called Smash TV. when i popped in my first quarter, i heard chanting Go Go Go Go! then my character was put in a room with a few baddies. At first, my thoughts were "oh piece of cake", but then after killing the baddies within a matter of seconds, more and more came. and upon killing those more and more came, after a good solid 30 seconds of killing an insane amount of enemies, the room was cleared and a door opened. i proceeded to the next room, and what happened before occured again, except this time it was much harder. 20 quarters and 5 minutes later, i was done, but i wasnt over. i remember coming back to the same machine every few days a week for at least a month. but then, for some obscure reason, they took the machine out of the arcade to be replaced by house of the dead. now dont get me wrong, house of the dead was and is a great game, but it comes nowhere clear to the rush and satisfaction i get when i just play one stage of Smash TV. after this, i was in a state of loss. i would go searching for games with levels that just featured nonstop killing, and i got almost the same feeling when i came across a few hack-n-slashes. but i mastered those, and it wasnt fun playing them anymore. the closest hit to smash tv i recently played was God Of War, but even in that, when you cleared a room, the baddies didnt keep coming, and even worse, there were cut scenes. Cutscenes dont belong in a hacknslash, i want what i paid for: nonstop killing, and though the game was great, even with the cool moves and combos, it wasnt the same. but last night, when in my local gamestop, i came across Midway Arcade Treasures, which not only had my favorites like joust, but had the one and only Smash TV! which is not only the best game, but just for the reason that its one of the hardest games ever, but you never feel screwed over when you play it. When a game doesnt kick your ass the first time you play it, it hasnt done its job. My conclusion is if your waiting for a game where you can just kill things, and that can test your skill, play Smash TV.
