Convince my little brother he needs to get a Wii

At first, we were both so excited to get it. But, you know, now it's the end of January and he doesn't have the infinite patience I have. We try, we do, but when Best Buy gets 36 Wiis, there's already 75 guys in line. Thankfully, of those 36 people not ALL of them were vying to sell them on eBay anymore. Thank god. But, my little brother has HAD IT and wants a 360, BADLY.

DAILY, I've been arguing over why the Wii is a better choice than a 360, but the stubborn little man he is, he refuses to see my way or change his mind.

He actually told me to make this thread, so other people could voice their opinions on our problem.

Reasons he wants a 360 over a Wii even though I think they're stupid reasons that are hardly true, if at all:
"There's are like...No 3rd party games, no 3rd party support, and no online games."
"Hey, the 360 has family-fun games too, on XBox Live Arcade. You can play Uno!"
"Okay, so maybe the Wii has A FEW really good games. But the 360 has SO MANY! The Wii's not gonna get as many good exclusive games and the 360 is gonna get, like Asassin's Creed. Quantity wins over quality [oh my god he is so wrong]."
"The games for the Wii that ARE good have no Online."

I've already told him why his reasons are wrong, but let him hear it from you.
Or, alternatively, you could make an unbiased post in which you balance both sides of both systems and make an honest judgement over which one is better. But, you know, I'm looking for mostly pro-Wii responses here. Please make sure your reasons are sound and explained.

    Thank you.

Re: Convince my little brother he needs to get a Wii

Uh, Nintendo doesn't even NEED third party games, what with many of the best games ever made being their first party ones. Even without much third party support (and it is/will be there), the Wii's going to have PLENTY incredibly awesome games.

The 360 has more good games? Haha, that's absurd.

The ONLY thing the 360 has is Live. And hey, I love the XBOX and will give it credit when it's due, but I say the Wii will outclass it in every single way save for online play, which is important, but I'd rather play super fun games offline with friends than play mediocre games online with ****tards.

Get both.... if you can afford 'em. Both are pretty sweet.

          President of Nintendo of America:

"Online gameplay will be coming in March 2007."

Hey Omega, at least he's not into the PS3 >_>

          Anyway, here we go.

          1) The 360 has some good games, but it's really generalized for a specific demographic. Think about it. What are the present and future killer apps for the 360. Gears. Saint's Row. Dead Rising. Halo 3. Lost Planet. Assassin's Creed. These games are all aimed at the 18-24 male demographic.

          2) The only reason it's going well at all is because of Xbox Live. But you're missing something here. It costs money to use Xbox Live. $50 a year. The Wii online service being rolled out in two months will be free.

          3) The Wii has had such a good launch that developers are becoming more and more interested in Wii. There aren't many good 3rd party games on the table now, sure. But were there any on 360 within its first two months? Give it time, man. You can't make a good game in two months. Now that the developers are interested, more and more titles will be flowing out. Of course, this is coupled with the unparalleled game-making that comes out of Nintendo's first-party studios. There are so many amazing franchises on Nintendo you will never see on 360. Zelda. Mario. Kirby. Pokemon. Metroid. Starfox. F-Zero. Animal Crossing. Mario Kart / Party / Tennis / Soccer / Paper Mario. WarioWare. And, of course, the one to sum them all up, Super Smash Brothers.

          4) Even if this isn't part of his argument, it's part of other people's arguments. The controls sometimes feel tacked on. It's probably because they are. Very few games out so far have been exclusively developed around the Wii Remote. Like I said before, give it time. There's no way anyone can fully utilize a console in a year. Two years. Three. Nothing even maxed out the Gamecube's processor / graphics and it was out for a solid five years. Developers will develop new and interesting means by which to utilize the Wii Remote. And the Devkit is so much cheaper than the competition's and much easier to use that even low-budget companies can produce games on Wii.

          5) Virtual Console.

I've gone on too long when I should be eating dinner. More later, perhaps.

            Wii Sports. Two freaking words.

I still play at least 15 minutes of it a day with my little brother. It's that fun.

P.S. make sure you get at least one more wiimote

But there will be. There has been a lot of companies running over to Nintendo from Sony, so expect them to pop up over this year.

"Hey, the 360 has family-fun games too, on XBox Live Arcade. You can play Uno!"
              hahahaha

There's no family-friendly stuff, I'm afraid. Most of the games are serious ones that require tons of effort to get good at. Yes, you can play Uno, but you can only do so alone. No guests allowed for it.

"Okay, so maybe the Wii has A FEW really good games. But the 360 has SO MANY! The Wii's not gonna get as many good exclusive games and the 360 is gonna get, like Asassin's Creed. Quantity wins over quality."
"Quantity"? Yes, 360 has a more developed library, but do you really think you're going to play it all? Do you even think you're going to play all of Wii's library? That's a ridiculous statemnt to make. Go for the one that has more good games but less overall than one that has less good games but more overall.

"The games for the Wii that ARE good have no Online."
              Smash Brothers Brawl.

              bye

I love my 360, but admittedly, the Wii is probably the better choice. I can't wait to get mine.

note: the 360 is pretty awesome but i'm leaving the good points out

wii hands down. No real argument.

I have gone through 6 (very bad comment) 360s. Buy a Wii. I will when I get the cash for one.

Re: Convince my little brother he needs to get a Wii

Xbox360 is for FPS and specifically older type games like that.

Wii is for pure fun regardless of means by which the fun is obtained. There are numerous family friendly fun games, but there are also games geared specifically at the older crowd.

And holy ****. Nintendo could not have a single third party game ever and they'd still be doing fine. I mean... Jesus. Every single Nintendo game I can think of that is any good is first party. First party Nintendo games are ****ing excellent and even a few of the best of 3rd party games can't beat the massive set of first party Nintendo has at their disposal.

As others have said Xbox only has online play over the Wii, and the Wii is already online and online play will come before too long. Those silly little games on Xbox? I'd rather play Virtual Console games. And is VC ever going to get homebrew games added ever or are they only going to do classic games? Or maybe have new games released on VC only? I can't imagine Nintendo not getting into that, especially since after a while they'll have anything classic for VC already released and will be probably looking for new material to release for VC.

At random points in the day for no reason at all I think about Trauma Center. The cutting, the grabbing, the stitching, the injecting...

Anyway! My point is you should get a Wii because it's damn addicting. Playing games throughout the night. Passing through hours like minutes. The only really addicting game the 360 has right now is Oblivion and you can pull that on your computer... maybe. Depends.

I've spent hours playing Trauma Center, Wario Ware, and WiiSports. Completely losing the time. Get the Wi. Get the Wii...

                          Then get the 360.

Remarks made by Hudson Entertainment director of marketing John Lee, during an interview with Game Informer, have sparked rumor that a 'Game Channel,' dealing in original downloadable titles, could be headed to Wii. Lee didn't make any specific implications, but did cleverly acknowledge that Nintendo had plans to distribute original downloadable games. When asked if Hudson had plans to do so, Lee claimed, "No," but added, "However, in the future, you should rephrase that question to: Are there any plans to launch original content on some downloadable service on the Wii, and you might get a different answer."

CVG brought the issue up with Nintendo, which responded, "We cannot confirm at this time in what format the new content will be delivered, but in the future there will be original games available for download through the Wii Shop."

You can say Xbox 360 has more and better games sure. The Wii has near enough only just come out though lol. Give it time.

Tell you what Omega. I'll give you the pass to Nintendo Official Magazines video vault. There are loads of games on there for your little brother to look at. If you want?
