    Want to start DDR

I've never played DDR but it looks like alot of fun :P I have a 360 and I was going to wait for the new one (DDR Universe) but I figured why not just get an old Xbox one while I wait.

What's a good one for Xbox for someone who's never played before? (I know how to play just haven't really done it for more than 2 mins)

DDR Ultramix [there's Ultramix 1-4, but in my opinion, the first is the best.]

DDR Ultramix has the original DDR soul but sounds a bit old-school. DDR Universe is released around February-March.
      Out Now!

      Older Releases:
      Vocaloid: Project Pad Pack 3rd
Gpop's Pack of Original Pad Simfiles
東方幻想踊 (Touhou Gensouyou) ~ Illusionary Dance Fantasy & Vocaloid: Project Pad Pack 2nd

lmao dont buy the old xbox if you only have to wait a month. jus wait it out, and go to the arcade. download stepmania to get a feel of how to time arrows. i played stepmania for a while before i started ddr so i could clear 10 footers in about 2 weeks

If you have the money, go ahead and get the old x-box. In my opinion, the
Ultramix games are good. Even though I have only played 1-3, and I
can't really say anything about 4. But, SuperNova for the PS2 saddened me.
I was expecting some songs I had never heard of, like in the Ultramix games.
But most of the songs were stupid songs from famous people, like Dance Dance (Fallout Boy)
And Girls Just Wanna have Fun (Whoever made that song sux!)
          Yea....

Something you could do. Is if you are able to. Buy a dance pad/mat (I assume you want to do this if your getting DDR for a console), doesn't matter for what system as you can get a control box. I have a dance pad for the PS2 but I use it on the pc with the help of a control box. See the way I can play is I use Stepmania and download all the DDR packs. That's a good start I think. It would be a little more expensive than just going out and buy a dance mat and the game (as you would be adding a control box in my way) but it make the DDR world much bigger and easily accessible.

Never start playing DDR at home. You need to get your feel for the game at the arcade first, to develop balance.

Actually, the first time I played DDR was when Sam brought his PS2 to soccer camp and he had DDR Exreme, I believe. That's probably what piqued my interest in the arcade game.

                  Sorry dude but EH?

You can develop balance at home. The only thing that would help in the arcade is the bar and that doesn't make that much of a difference. If you needed to you could just substitute the bar. If anything you learn better balance at home because you don't become dependant on the bar. Everything is 100% you.

If you plan to go into tournys, you need to practice at the arcade, but if you're only playing for fun, home version is fine.

nforcer is right in a way. arcade pads are VERY awkward compared to playing on a softpad even ro pads. i tried arcade for the first time after playin at home for about 2 weeks and i got a D on a song that i usually AA. this applies mostly for heavy and harder songs tho i gues

The only mat I've had trouble with was at a lock-in where I had trouble distinguishing between the tile and the mat.

The only arcade pad I had trouble with was the one at Main Event, which I stomped on and it said that I missed frequently.
