So, like, Battlefield 2142 is really good

I hate EA with a passion, but... this game is brilliant. I hadn't played any of the other battlefields, but from what I'm told, this one is the fastest paced. You rank up to get unlocks which actually are very significant, so yay for that.

If anyone else here has it and plays it, my game name is Sandboato. SandmanCCL was taken. I was REALLY surprised at that.

I'm just going from what other people have told me. I haven't played BF2 to comment on it, but BF2142 is rather fast paced. You can manuever around the map rather easily, and being dropped into a battlezone where your squad leader sets up a beacon is a blast and something everyone needs to do at least once for effect if nothing else.

I'm all recon all the time. I went the demolitions way via unlocks, so I rig plastic explosives on things that I sneak behind with active camo. It's highly satisfying to take out a walking mech with well rigged explosives on its legs. Even though I unlocked the SMG that goes with that kits, I tend to not use it very often because I'm a rather good sniper. I've already got the infiltrator pin like 10 times (where you get 5 headshots.) I love how it keeps track of your rewards, too. Most recently, I got the commander excellence badge (I'm proud of that one) and sidearms proficiency. I PISTOL JOO!

BF2142 is just BF2 with futuristic gadgets, it seems. I'm not gonna get a "new game" that is just a mod of a game I already own. EA sure knows how to make the most of their resources.

That said, given that it's the same engine, I know it'll have the same (and more) problems. Another thing EA knows how to do is take perfectly awesome gameplay and ruin it with ****ty performance and tons of bugs.

I still love BF2, though. Me and my roommate play it quite a bit. ;D
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

Everyone I know that plays BF2142 who had played BF2 say that it's a lot more fun, but not quite as competitive.

They all agree that it's massively less buggy, and EA actually put out an announcement that they are going to actively patch the game, and the people who make the patches will be those who helped develop the game. You know, so basically, they are finally getting with the times and doing what every other company already does, but this is NEW for Electronic Arts and means their games might eventually not all be buggy piece of ****.

That also means that they're NEVER GOING TO PATCH BF2 AGAIN AND LEAVE IT AS BUGGY ****.

What first turned me off from EA was that I was always a HUGE FAN of C&C. C&C RA2 came out and kinda continued the very deep storyline they were gonna have going, but then the expansion, Yuri's Revenge, TOTALLY ****ED THE STORY UP THE ASS. On top of that, it was a horribly balanced game. They released one patch and promised to make more to fix even more horrible balance changes that came with the 1.001 patch, but ya know what they did instead? They made C&C: Generals, which has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH C&C AT ALL. They just slapped the name on the game to improve sales. Then they make the expansion for that which had pretty poor balance and then they released like 2 patches and stopped. Jeremy even talks about how much EA sucks in Pure Pwnage. They are terrible at making games that work and suck at giving support to the games they do put out.

I mean, iD (the people who made Doom and Wolfenstein) released the standalone expansion for Return to Castle Wolfenstein for free because, basically, "well we didn't finish it and we didn't want our work to go to waste so uh, here ya go!" You can still download it and play it completely for free (without needing the base game) today. It has a working ****ing server list with a good filtering system. EA has yet to get a decent server list going in either BF1942 or BF2. -____-

EA does suck muh bawls, but BF2142 is still good.

I'm as surprised as you are.

Re: So, like, Battlefield 2142 is really good

Well I'm sure the gameplay is great. It's only a matter of time before you experience some crazy ass bugs, though. Thing is, BF2 wasn't super buggy when it was first released, or even in the demo that I played for so much. It seems like every patch, though, it just gets worse and worse. Now every so often the game will just randomly crash to desktop. No error messages, no warning signs, it just closes for no reason at all.

Plus it is EXTREMELY laggy. Even with bots playing by myself, BF2's engine is terribly lagtastic. My roommate and I get good pings (like, 20 and below sometimes) yet it's still horribly laggy. Bad netcode if I've ever seen it. People shoot you from around corners because you don't see them on your screen yet (you'll see them shooting as you die and your view leans back into OMFG REVIVE ME mode) and most of the time when I kill people they die after I stop shooting. This is ESPECIALLY apparent with things like the grenade launcher, where I shoot it, see the grenade explode, watch as they take several more steps and then go flying off from the grenade explosion that happened a few seconds before.

Also, the Play Now! button is the biggest load of crap ever. NEVER CLICK IT in BF2 (not sure if it's there/better in 2142). Basically, you click it, and it randomly picks a server. For some reason, randomly picking a server takes like 5 minutes (which is a long ass time to wait while you stare at a message saying "STARTING PLAY NOW SEARCH" that you can't cancel or get out of). Also, it will sometimes pick a server that is using expansion pack maps that you don't have, which prompts the game to throw you a message about how "You can't play on this server map without installing the expansion pack!" Seriously, I start crying when I accidentally click the Play Now button (which happened a lot before I learned to not click "Disconnect" more than once when the game seemed to stop responding and didn't disconnect/do anything right away).
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

I haven't played BF2 personally, but I've had that happen to me on my old computer due to my Windows version(specific, not just Windows XP) and my graphics card, which was good enough, but the game I was trying to play didn't like it.
