If the song is a live recording, then there is no exact speed of the song.
Most people use MixMeister for electronic songs (ones with consistant bpm).
For the background, just put a 640x480 picture (.png extension recommended) in the song folder. It will automatically connect the next time you edit the steps.YOU JUST WON THE GAME! CONGRATULATIONS! -

oh ok so i did a gif last time i guess they dont work. i tap my feet as best i can to match the beat lol:P my songs are like rap songs though lol oh well thanks ill just have to estimate the best i can

you should be using .png format, but if that's not the problem, open up the .sm file in notepad and manually direct to it - there should be a sticky in DDR Simulators about that
