    Snowcrafta's all inclusive guide to better MA

    Since there is much contreversy over the whole aspect of MA, or Marvelous Attack (as a dark secret, I call it Marvelous Ammount), I have decided to make a guide for anyone who is looking to improve their MA. This means that if you take the few moments required to read over this brief guide, you will learn the secrets to getting AAAA's, SDP's, and FC's. So please, sit back, take what I say to heart, and reap the rewards.

    Introduction to MA:
    Marvelous is the timing every keyboard stepmania player craves. You know you want it, you get it, but there is always those nasty Perfects, Greats, and other oddly colored words that pop up time to time, ruining your streak and ultimatly, your score. As time goes on, you'll notice that the ammount of those strangly colored words decreases, and the ammount of Marvelouses you get will steadily go up.

    However, you might find yourself in a strange position. As you read these topics made by other players, you might discover they have better MA than you. This can be troublesome as they usually haven't played as long as you, yet they are faster and have better timing than you. This is not something you should worry about. When it comes to forums and bragging, you have to be number one. Now, there is several ways you can go about doing this. The longest way and the way that will yeild you the least ammount of improvement would be to just practice. Now, we all know that will any given ammount of practice, anyone can become a pro.

    But sometimes that isn't enough. As you begin spending your days playing Stepmania for three, four, maybe even five hours a day, you realize that your MA is not improving at all. This can hurt your pride and even more importantly, your rank on SMO. Instead of doing this tedious chore day in and day out, do what the professionals do. Like baseball players, sometimes a little something more is what you need for that boost to do well. What you are going to do requires little to no effort, and could significantly to drastically improve your MA in a matter of moments!

    Start up Stepmania, and on the title screen where you have all sorts of options, including starting the game, changing the game style, there will be an option called Options. Move your cursor down to that and select it. It will bring you to a whole new screen will all sorts of assorted options to customize your gameplay. Scroll down to the tenth menu titled 'Machine Options' and open it. This will bring you to yet another screen with many selections. Move down to the option titled 'Judge Difficulty'. By default, it should be set on four. Simple move the cursor over to one, and move down to the bottom of screen to exit. Start up the game and witness the massive improvement in your timing!

    Even with your newfound skill, sometimes that wont be enough. Speedy songs might hamper your ability to hit all the arrows, and could even cause you to fail. But there is nothing to worry about, as there is an even better way of getting around this terrible hump. This route, however, is a slight bit more technical, so be ready to do a little code hacking. Find where your stepmania folder is and open it. There should be many folders that make your stepmania program tick, but luckily there is only one we have to play with. Find the one called Data and open it. In it should be several files that you should be able to select. Find the one labeled Stepmania and double click it. Inside, there is all sorts of code that, without any help, could be as foreign as an African tribal language. Luckily, you have this guide to help you through it, so follow closely. Open the file and scroll down until you see this code:

    JudgeWindowAdd=0.000000
    JudgeWindowScale=1.000000
    JudgeWindowSecondsAttack=0.135000
    JudgeWindowSecondsBoo=0.180000
    JudgeWindowSecondsGood=0.135000
    JudgeWindowSecondsGreat=0.090000
    JudgeWindowSecondsMarvelous=0.022500
    JudgeWindowSecondsMine=0.090000
    JudgeWindowSecondsOK=0.250000
    JudgeWindowSecondsPerfect=0.045000

    Notice how each one has such small ammounts of numbers, and that they are such small increments of numbers. However, this could be changed in a matter of a few select numbers. Simply just instert any ammount of numbers in before the decimal point. Let's take the marvelous window and add... oh, how about 200 to it. It should look like this:

    JudgeWindowAdd=0.000000
    JudgeWindowScale=1.000000
    JudgeWindowSecondsAttack=0.135000
    JudgeWindowSecondsBoo=0.180000
    JudgeWindowSecondsGood=0.135000
    JudgeWindowSecondsGreat=0.090000
    JudgeWindowSecondsMarvelous=200.022500
    JudgeWindowSecondsMine=0.090000
    JudgeWindowSecondsOK=0.250000
    JudgeWindowSecondsPerfect=0.045000

    Save the file once you're done and load up stepmania. The ammount that your Marvelous count increases will blow your mind! Who would have thought that in just a matter of a few minutes you could be brushing elbows with the Stepmania powerhouses like Nima, Eggman, and Volkov! Just remember, it's what the pros do, so why arn't you?

    I hope this guide helps any lost puppies in the world of MA. Remember, there's no shame in taking a helping hand. Enjoy this guide, and I wish you all the best MA in the world.
