I'd post this at liquidsushi, but it isn't letting me, so I'll have to vent this review at FFR for the time being.

XR Anime Review: Eureka seveN
By: Snowcrafta
At long last, the fabled Snowcrafta's reaction to Eureka seveN that Kefit has been urging to see.
Story - Wow. Eureka seveN has probably one of the best fiction by all means story that I've seen. So much lies in the depths of this anime that it almost became another world I was learning about. Whenever something comes up that you don't understand, the writers just assume you'll figure it out in due time, and accept things for how they are. Such simple things like 'Why do we have robots on surfboards?' and 'Why does this Eureka girl have such strange eyes?' were probably the first questions I asked myself. Both of these questions are answered, however, but until then I just found myself accepting it as how it works, and to move on.
The basic story follows like so: A girl in a Mech-robot (LFO, as this series calls them) crashes into Renton, a 14 year old boy, home, and proceeds to ask for repairs on her LFO as it has been slightly damaged. Blah blah, Episode two comes around, and this is when the **** hits the fan. The Amita Drive, something I can't honestly explain how it works (Hey, I told you that you'll just accept things), gets into Renton's hands, and when put on Eureka's LFO Compac Drive (Think like a key to start it), all hell breaks loose and the story begins.
Now, as much as I'd like to believe that this show is based mostly around Robotsurfboard fighting action, it isn't. More or less, the story to Eureka seveN was not the shining point in the series. Although it does indeed go through several changes with some amazing twists, it does feel a tad generic. Why?
In all respects though, the story was better than I expected for a mech anime.
Characters - This is really the shining point in the anime, hands down. Each and every character has such a great role, each of them prove to be an asset to the story, and the only characters who don't make a noteable impact are the nameless ones. Although I cannot remember every name because there are so many characters, through their actions they all add their two cents into the story, which makes the series a winner.
Renton is truely the first male character who isn't an adult that I have some major respect for. At first glance I thought I was going to be following a whiny 14 year old boy's lust for a strange girl that crashed at his house, but I was certaintly proven wrong. He proved to be quite the protaganist in that you saw some major growth from episode 1 all the way through the finale. Faced with many hard decisions, the writers really gave Renton a dynamic build. Although it was a bit expected for what Renton would do, being he always chose the right, he was still a great boy to watch throughout all of this.
As for Eureka, even after finishing the series, she is still a mysterious girl. So many question spawn while watching this, and as each one gets answered 3 more come up. It was interesting to watch Eureka open up more and more as the relationship between her and Renton went on, and her true cluelessness about being a girl and love proved time and time again to be comic relief. May we nay forget a girl's first try with make up. As for what happens to her in the late of the anime, I'm still fairly lost in the end. If you asked me to explain it, all I could do is shrug, as I honestly can't tell you anything besides 'Just accept it'.

Drama - Ties closely into characters, but the drama in this was tingling. So many times I felt tense just by watching characters break down (Renton going ape****, for one), and honestly I was left jaw dropped more than a few times throughout these 50 episodes. Some people I have talked to say that the drama in this show is the major focus point (being the Renton and Eureka relationship), I can't say I felt it as much. More or less, I found myself more turned on when the typeZERO was going all out against theEND than watching some character development that was more often than not a chore to watch. Don't get me wrong, though. Some of the most dramatic moments happened in this, and it's extremely hard to explain ANY of the drama without massive spoilers.
The only true drama that I found myself torn apart with dealt with Holland, the ship's captain and Renton's hero. His character shows him going from a rebel to a true adult, and because of the changes he went through, I can honestly say I actually found a strong male character, a father figure, that I could respect. What he did so often was do things that were justifiable, but also could be considered wrong. But in the end, he just turned out to be a total badass. Holland makes the Hall of Fame with characters with me, as he has more character to him than a good deal of the cast featured here in Eureka seveN, and that's a LOT to say.
Action - Amazing. Never once have I been slightly interested in Mech-style battle. In fact, I frown upon it, and avoid to like the plauge. However, Eureka seveN changed that whole view point around . Although it is a bit silly, the whole concept of robots on surfboards, 'reffing' as it is called, soaring around in the sky in fast paced battles never felt so awesome to watch. Action was well distributed along with the story, and I never found a battle to be found out of place. Some battles were with nameless piolots who are doomed from the time the decided to engage the typeZERO, and even though the supreme advantage went to Renton's LFO, it was still high paced action that was satisfying none the less.
Even outside the mech zone, the action was of high interest. Not only was there mech battles, there was more than a few fights between battlecruisers. Although it wasn't as stylish and fast paced as fights with the LFO, it was awesome watching the power these battlecruisers had. Even some fights outside of machine happened, and it was awesome to see some recon action between Holland and Charles.
All in all ,the action was done superbly. Whether it be LFO, Battlecruiser, or simply guns, it was a thrill to watch.

All in all, putting aside Kefit's constant pestering of my to watch it (let it be known that once I watched 9 I was watching it because I wanted to watch it, not to got you to stop), I was very impressed with what I was left with. Great characters, a great story, and a well developed love story in the middle of a war is what will make this anime stand out forever in my mind. This series easily made my top five, and even if you don't like mech anime, I highly suggest you take the time to watch Eureka seveN anyways, as you will be rewarded for your time.
This series was also awarded third place on my all time favorite anime's list. It's worth anyone's time to check it out.
