    Dream Theater Songs for FFR

I know Dream Theater aren't really against P2P (infact I know for a fact that Mike their drummer likes that his band is being p2p shared) so I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get their permission to use their songs for FFR for the Rock section (since you put metal in there).

The official website of the US progressive metal band Dream Theater. New album Parasomnia out February 7, 2025!

Even if the band is cool with it, since they are signed to a record company, we'd need permission from the record company, and that just plain isn't gonna happen.

The band might be in it for making happy fans, but the record company is in it for money.

Do you have any way of e-mailing them? I'm sure the record company wouldn't mind, just more exposure.

You obviously don't know how the record industry works.

I'm sure you remember all the lawsuits over P2P software. That wasn't the artists doing that. That was the record companies. Many artists surely don't mind about their stuff being on P2Ps, because they want their music to get out and get more play. The record companies only give a **** about the money though. If there's no money in it for them, then it ain't gonna happen.

Depends on which record company it is. If it's a small one, they might allow it to get the band more exposure. If people like that band, they may check out other artists from that company.

The Record Company is "Atlantic Records". The only problem (other then getting permission) I see with using Dream Theater songs is basically every single one of their songs would be guru+ because they change tempo/genre and use syncopation heavily etc (gg).

              Edit:
Here is a simple peice by Dream Theater which is just mainly a duet with their Keyboardist and their drummer. (I don't think this is part of any of their songs, I think it's just improv. not sure though). And thats their slow-uncomplicated stuff.

Edit2: on their site there are downloadable midis of their older albums... but they're really crap compared to the real thing lol

If you try to sync a dream theater song your head explodes.

Their time signatures are so far out they require constant bpm changing. A few people have made them, but they've all been offsync.
