MadCatz Beat Pad. Good for starters?

    Hello everyone,

I'm just getting into DDR and am considering getting a set of pads for my PS2. I checked my local EB games and they had MadCatz Beat Pads for $20 each. Talking with the employees there didn't overly satisfy my concerns so I though I'd try and ask here. They also come with a 1 year in store warrenty for an extra $3 which seems good as I hear that many of these soft pads don's last long. Any suggestions/opions are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    1) Will the pad be big enough? They never had any dimensions listed on it(or so it seemed). My feet are size 13.

    2) I hear that they can slip quite a bit. At about what skill level does this start to really pose a problem?

Once again, thanks for your time!

I heard that MadCatz pads were made by the devil and appraised by Hitler.

    In other words, they're bad.

They're horrible. Invest in a good pad.

If you want a cheap pad that won't completely piss you off, go for an ignition pad. Eb game SHOULD have them but if not, www.redoctane.com .

The selection at the EB games near me is fairly limited. Living in Newfoundland provides limited places to acquire such things. They have a few other pads but none are Ignition. They are all names that I haven't really heard before, aside from the Mad Catz (which I know of but haven't tried any of their hardware before).

Guess I'll have to order one online if I descide to go for an Ignition pad.

          Thanks for the input (s)

I won a brand new Red Octane Ignition 3.0 at a tourney once (ARV $129), and within 1 week, the left arrow blew out and started glitching.

I bought two of the cheap ebay fake red octane (I call 'em Fred Octane) pads for just under $20 each, and I've given them about 10 times the use of the Red Octane with very few problems.

I would personally recommend one of the cheaper ebay ones with 'deluxe foam inserts' if you're just starting to play and might want to move up some in the future. It should last, and you can tell where the arrows are without having the pad bunch up, slip around like crazy, and rip (in the case of most Mad Catz pads).

              Go for the Cobalt Flux.
