    Ninja Scroll the TV Series

Anyone else seen this? I got the first two volumes a long time ago and liked them, even though they had nothing to do with Ninja Scroll the movie save the name of the main character and a clan name here and there. I recently picked up the third (final) volume and was blown away.

This series is an absolute bloodbath.

There is a story that accompanies, though. Jubei's protecting a really important girl who's got two or three different groups going after her. All of it, though, is really just a thinly veiled attempt at providing some sort of reason for Jubei to slaughter the weirdest creatures ever conceived by a human brain.

I'm not kidding. These character models are ridiculous, surpassing the greatest level of weird that you could imagine. One of the guys, who's not even a major character, is a guy with an animals head that is throwing up a man's head that is throwing up a child. I shit you not. The child is the part that talks, and it has to hang upside down from the mouth of the man. Most of the bad guys (and most of the good, for that matter) never fail to creep you out.

After watching the first volume (the series is thirteen episodes long), my friend and I placed bets on how many people would die in the next volume. The high teens was a good guess. The third volume has an extra episode, but the last one was titled as a farewell episode. That, and the second to last probably had a final showdown type fight, caused my friend and I to guess in the low twenties.

    That was laughable.

Fifty-nine people were killed. Five episodes, fifty-nine people. Ridiculous. Characters that look badass enough to stick around for a bit are slaughtered in the episode in which they were introduced.

Overall, though, I highly recommend it to anyone who likes seeing seas of blood and being amazed at the sheer ingenuity held by the series creators.
