*Warning! This is a serious Anime discussion. No fscking it up.*
They rhyme people, but are they similar? I had the chance to finish watching the entire series of RahXephon tonight. After the end of the regular series, I went back and rented the movie from Blockbuster. IMO the movie was a little better with the ending but I digress. However, after watching the series, especially during the final episode, something occured to me. RahXephon seemed strangely familiar and reminiscent of Evangelion. Hmm, let's explore this shall we?
1. Main Characters - The main characters of both anime are whiny, insecure, emotionally distressed teens. Nuff said.
2. Main Mecha of Anime - Of course I'm referring to the Mecha in both series. While Ayato Kamina (RahXephon) pilots the self-titled mecha, Shinji Ikari (Evangelion) pilots Eva Unit 01. Both mecha are closely involved with the main characters and are major assets to the end of the series which leads me to....
3. Ending of Series - If you don't like spoilers, avert your eyes now. Both series end in a very dramatic way. Let's explore them.
Neon Genesis Evagelion - If you havent seen End of Evagelion, you are a n00b. But seriously, in the end, SEELE attacks NERV with thier production units of Eva that forces Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami to begin the Human Instrumentality Project, which generally means to end the entire world and turn everyone into LCL liquid, or the primordial soup of beginning time. The entire world ends and everyone dies.
RahXephon - If you want a happier ending, see the movie not the series. Anyway, Ayato, now comes to terms that he is indeed no longer human and is Mu and apart of the RahXephon. In a climatic ending, Ayato accepts this and "Tunes" the entire world with song that VERY SIMILARLY is exactly the same thing Evangelion does. In short, everyone on Earth dies. Coincidence?
After comparing and contrasting I've come to this conclusion. It is blatantly obvious that RahXephon wants to be another Evangelion clone, but it does it in its own style. It wouldn't be fair to give Eva the nod just because it's Eva. So IMO I think that Evangelion and RahXephon are similar in thier aspects but go about their own ways of doing it. So any opinons about the topic?
